Bert/DS
I can't thank you enough for all the help you have given me over the last day. All the details you have found seem to tie in.
I know I need to go to the Liverpool archives to verify the details, but living in Dorset....it makes it fairly difficult.
But maybe in a couple years, when my youngest is a bit older, I'll get the chance to stay for a couple days in Liverpool and go through the records. But at least you have given me a head start.
Any other info would be gratefully received, but thanks again for your help

Hi Paul,
With regard to the 'Liverpool archives' it would be well worth reading this post by MaryA as to what you can find and what you may not find at the Liverpool Record Office and, in particular, information from BMD certificates.
http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =25&t=6937

In the meantime I suggest you collate all the info we have found for you and start a family tree to include all the details turned up so far. Then pick a specific line to chase down the descendents and post that 'chase' as a separate topic. Don't chase more than two at a time would be my mantra! :D

I can't believe how helpful you have all been! I can't thank you enough!
I am collating all the relevant supplied info onto my family tree at the moment, and then I'll look at the different branches.

Looking back through, I did make one mistake.
My dads cousin, Annie Lundberg married Ray Carley. They were landlords of The Strand pub at Seaforth (where ever that is!)

Her step sister Esther Parr married STAN, who was a champion boxer and they became landlords of the Shipperies pub (near docks I believe!). I would assume that both of these were landlords in the 1950's.

There is also a possibility that my nan, Margaret Robinson, had another sister (possibly older) as my dad remembers a "Auntie Lel"....and he is sure that this was his mums sister (possibly Lesley/Leslie). I have had no success searching on line for this.

Again, thank you for your time and info supplied.

Seaforth is between Bootle and Crosby, check google maps, it's on the outskirts of Liverpool.

The marriage information confirms both fathers names, one of the street names you mention, and the ages which are a little older than might have been the norm so helps with identification. I hope this information is of use to you as I went to the Record Office for it for you.

Very kind of you to do that Mary.

It appears from census and baptism information the children born to James and Margaret are as follows

Sarah E 1880
Emma 1883
James 1885
Robert 1887
William 1890
Margaret 1893
Edith 1895
Edward 1897

The 1901 census has as visitors William & Lily Dorman plus 2 of their children staying with James and Margaret, could that be Auntie Lil,perhaps a family connection?

It was very common for friends of ones parents to be addressed as Auntie and Uncle by the children. I had 3 sets of such who were totally unrelated to my parents. My Auntie Elsie, who had been a lifelong friend of my mother from childhood, was still my 'Auntie' when she died in 1997 aged 90 and I had retired from work the previous year.

Hi
I would second that about the Shipperies on Durning Rd, also there was a pub called the Strand on the main road on the corner across the road from the Liver Bldings.

"The boxer I am looking for is Ray Carley. He married my Dads cousin Annie Lundberg and I believe they were the landlords of the Shipperies Pub, in the docks area.......but thank you for that bit of info. Everything helps."

The Shipperies pub is in Durning Rd,Liverpool 7 and is some distance from any docks by any stretch of the imagination. Just thought I would point out that either the Pubs name or the location is not reliable. Indicative of memories being a little confused perhaps ? It happens all the time .
There is not and has never been a pub called the Strand in Seaforth,Litherland, Waterloo or Gt Crosby. The only pub of that name that I have ever known is now in the New Strand,Bootle, and used to be in Strand Rd up until the 70's ?
Interested in Ellison, Roberts, Riley, Raffells, Newman, Klosser, Butler, Carroll, Hough,Ruffe & McCallister.
