Thomas in the 61 and 71 census is the same person, whats the chances of 2 Thomas McMichan's born in Scotland and living in Wales both being Publicans and having children named the same?

The 51 census looks like Thomas is lodging with the Roberts family.

Thomas McMichan, 35, married, Joiner, Scotland.

Mr & Mrs E J McMichan departing Southampton in 1895, destination port New York on the ship Paris.
I saw that couple but discounted them because they are both listed as adults and we now know Thomas John was born in 1887.

Me too, even stooped to McM* and tried LLoyd, Porter and Hall. Perhaps a search of arrivals between April 1891 when we know Jane and Thomas were in Wales and 1901 when we know they were in the US would bear fruit?

I think I found them - Jane Ann and Thomas J entered in 5th October 1900 into Boston - found them on the passenger list. She states to join friend James E Hall. He immigrated on April 1899 (was even able to find his passport application and naturalization record.) In the 1910 census Thomas J McMichan is step child to James E Hall.

What's interesting is that in 1907 James E, Jane Ann, Mabel (5) and Herbert (3) - all must have gone back to the UK as they re-enter in 1907 again.

That's a great find! Can you tell us what ship Jane and Thomas arrived on in 1900 and their later arrival in 1907?

Dominion Line - SS New England Arrival into Boston 5th Oct 1900 - departed Sep 29th (or 20th - can't make it out) from Liverpool.

In 1907 it was the Ivernia - departed Liverpool 3rd Sep 1907

James E Hall original arrival was April 1899 on the Ultonia
