I may have missed something, and if I have, I apologise. But who was the Percy Walter Hulme who died on 3 April 2009 at the age of 84 at Manly Hospital NSW Australia?
Source: Ryerson Index (death notices & Obits in Australian newspapers.) date published: 11 April 2009.

Is this useful?

Hi Alan
Thank you for your interest.
Not sure whether he is connected or not at the moment.
The Percy who died in 1968 was the man I was interested in and seems that is correct.

This morning I had an email from a gentleman in Australia who knew Percy. His Dad was Percy's work/drinking/fishing mate back in the 50's. It was a lovely message and very kind of him to contact me. As he was a boy at the time he can't remember a wife or any other family, although he thinks a wife was mentioned. I think the plot thickens, but may know more this week when a couple of certs arrive. :D

PS Just saw your message John. Thanks for that, didn't know about him before so maybe there's no connection after all.

UPDATE

The gentleman who contacted me from Australia sent me the rest of the article that Tina posted

Image

That at least confirms he remarried in Australia having been married previously in England.
Still waiting for certs to arrive, but still really need to know whether he left Margaret or divorced her.
Watch this space :D

GR8 find Louis
Her birth listed in S.A record between 1907-1916
Interesting there's a death for an Amy Catherine Lorinza Mazey in S.A 1958.
Unusual names?
Tks Erika for rest of article!
Edit
Amy C.L was a Massey who married James Mazey in 1905.
I thought it was a typo.
Mabel's parents?

Thank you Louis for your finds.
I feel a little happier now regarding his second marriage as I have received the certs I sent for.

Margaret Hulme (Owen) died age 45 on 1st Sep 1937. She was living with her parents ( an address which they had lived in for sometime ) but it also says Wife of Percy Hulme. Her mother was the informant.

The birth cert for Joseph Hulme was not correct, son of William and Elizabeth Hulme ( Owen ) living at Marsh Street ( another one for Peter's collection!!)
I would assume the other 2 births for Mary G b. 1921 and Ellen b. 1925 are also William & Elizabeth's or is there a possibility one is Percy & Margaret's? Not quite sure how to find out without another purchase, which is a bit annoying.

Anyway think I've more or less exhausted that avenue unless a Hulme relative pops up and says
"Hey think we maybe related"!!!!!

Thanks for everyone's help

Hi Erika,
It is beginning to look as though Margaret and Percy may not have had children. Perhaps that was a factor in Percy leaving for Australia? No divorce apparently, so he simply married again. Not uncommon.

With regard to Mary G b. 1921 and Ellen b. 1925 there is a way you can 'check' parentage for 1/2 of the cost of a cert if you wanted to.

When you go to the GRO site and get to the 'Certificate choice' page, after ticking the 'Birth Cert' box there's a question at the bottom asking whether the GRO reference is known. Tick the No box and just enter the year of the birth you are interested in.

The 'Delivery address details' page comes next, and after that a new page will open allowing you to enter the names of the parents including the mother's maiden name. The GRO will do a search 1 year either side of the given date. If they don't find the cert with the exact details you specified they will only charge a search fee of about £4.50 and refund the balance.

If they don't find it for you, they may actually refund your money without charging the half as they used to.

Thanks for the tip DS will probably try that.
Incidentally just thought I'd look for a marriage for William Hulme and Elizabeth Owen on Freebmd and nothing came up for anywhere and with a wide timescale!!
Don't anyone spend time looking tho' as it really has nothing to do with my search, it was just another idea of narrowing down births.

Anyway back to the garden, only a few more plants to put in

Thanks again
