Mary Ann Masterson 1871 census.
Finally got marriage cert for Michael Masterson and Mary Ann Smith. They are the correct family. Michael was my great-grandfather's brother and it was Mary Ann who was godmother to Ellen Masterson in 1868. Michael & Mary Ann had two children, the boy James died in 1888 so there is no line to follow there, the girl was also named Mary Ann but haven't yet followed her line as I don't know who she married. Can you advise how I can get copies of Mary Ann's dealings with the law as reported in the Liverpool Mercury. Many thanks. Moya
Hi Moya
Nice to see you posting
James died at age 22 poor lad.
He was 15 in following census
Mary Ann Masterson is 13 in 1881
living in the courts in Tox Park with father
Michael rigger 48 bn Ire & wife Mary Ann 35 bn Lpool.
As you know Mary Ann snr widow is in prison 1891 aged 46yrs.
Michael died 1885 aged 55yrs
Lpool rego.
The only birth I can find for Mary Ann jr is in Prescot 1865 which puts her birth year out by 3 according to census.
She may have married Thomas Daniels after she had lived with him in 1891 census with two kiddies.
I'm not sure at all.
See Lancs BMD.
Wild goose chase I think as no sign in 1901.

Hi Tina. Hope you are coping with this hot weather !! I have just spent the last 6 hours trying to find these Mastersons on the 1871 census, no luck at all, I wonder where they hid. I thought the younger Mary Ann was probably married to Thomas Daniels, but as you say, no sign of them on the 1901. Kind regards. Moya
Hello MaryA. With regards to the extracts from the Liverpool Mercury concerning Mary Ann Masterson. Would you please advise where I may get copies of the original newspaper reports. Do you suppose the dates of these reports would be the actual dates on which she was sentenced ? the reason I ask is that the 1891 census shows her in Walton jail but the newspaper report is dated June 1891 for an offence dated 27 April. So either she was in jail at the time of the census for another offence, or I am chasing the wrong Mary Ann. Thanks for your help. Regards Moya
