just checked this out.. the Peter Murray at Aldershot in 1901 has service records on Ancestry, his mum and dad were definitely John and Catherine according to the records.

also remember now... your grandad was Navy in WW2 wasn't he not WW1... head was scrambled for a minute there

Have you thought of applying for his WW2 service records... It normally has to be next of kin, or at least written authority from next of kin. I did this and was lucky that my grandad's WW1 records were in there too :D

Hi

Has anyone checked the passenger lists for Peter and Mary Jane? I notice some possibilities but don't have full access myself to check them out :(

Lee had 28 June 1883 and his cousin said 24 June 1883, the day almost there but the year out as I think we all expected.

Yep and I think the number Katie had for the wounded soldier matches the number on the medal.

The Electoral Roll for 22 Cornwall St, 1919, should have Mary Jane there?

1919 Electoral Roll-22, Cornwall

Margaret Howorth
Thomas Howorth
Mary Jane Murray
Peter Murray

*Still think that Mrs. Murray on 1911 is Mary Jane

I also had a look through St. Ambrose for 1883/84 and also 1889/1891 no Murray baptisms for children to Peter and Grace Murray

I did come across a baptism for Grace Murray daughter of George and Sarah Murray address 47a, Prince Edwin Street.

Nice one Katie :D

I think Mrs Murray may be her too, she is recorded as married, but obviously age recorded incorrectly, it would make sense wouldn't it.

I've been in and out of St Ambrose too, looking for marriages they may have witnessed. Also been trying to track the children of George and Thomas... I think young Grace died.. from what I can recall she was Grace Carruthers Murray, and died within a year :?: a few of the families' children died.. :(

I've been thinking about the lack of baptisms for children for Peter and Grace Murray. If they were C of E your bound to pick up one of the baptism but there are none at all. Is it possible they may have been Scottish Presbyterian and their children may have been baptised in one of the local Non-Conformist churches?

Well done Katie, getting the info.

Thomas Howarth, if it is in his own hand, filling in the 1911 census form would know his own daughters name and age me thinks.

What I'm trying to say is there is no sign of Mary Jane Murray or her husband in 1911. Peter was a seaman so he was most probably away at the time of the 1911 census. There is a Mrs. Murray in the house lodging with the Howarth/Howorth it appears that Mary Jane and Peter Murray resided with the Howarth/Howorth family during the war years and they are listed in the electoral roll for 1919. I would not eliminate Mrs. Murray unless I was 100%. If the Murray family Peter and Grace Murray are Lees line they had no daughters only sons so I will keep a open mind for now.
