Sarsfield baptisms in Liverpool 1872 to 1880

Post by dickiesam »

Trying to track down 2 deceased children of my g.g.parents Thomas and Mary Ann Sarsfield [nee Dal(e)y. According to the 1911 census, Thomas and Mary had 7 children two of whom died. I know 5 were born in Dublin and the family moved to Liverpool between July 1871 when a child was born in Dublin and 1881 when they appear in the England census. I have found no child deaths in Ireland to this couple, but there is a birth and death in Liverpool that I believe to be their's. Mary would have been abt 40 in 1880 so it is very unlikely children were born after 1880. The family were RC and it is possible there are baptisms between 1871 and 1880 in the Ancestry collection.

Fairly sure this is 'one of mine'....
Births Mar 1876: Sarsfield, Sarah - Liverpool - 8b - 94 [Mary Ann had a sister Sarah]
Deaths Sep 1878: Sarsfield, Sarah - 2 - Liverpool - 8b - 69

There are 2 birth/deaths I thought might be theirs because of the forename:
Births Mar 1879: Sarsfield, John - W. Derby - 8b - 651 [Thomas' father was John]
Deaths Jun 1880: Sarsfield, John - 1 - W. Derby - 8b - 426.

And this because Thomas had a sister Catherine...
Births Sep 1877: SARSFIELD, Catherine - Liverpool - 8b - 28.
Deaths Jun 1880: Sarsfield, Catherine - 2 - Liverpool - 8b - 4.

I shall be away from the keyboard for a couple of days so thanks in advance of any finds. :) :)
Onward and backwards!
Cheers

Thank Blue. That confirms Sarah as one of mine. Because the family were RC I am sure there would have been a baptism if the child had been born in Liverpool. It is possible the other missing child was born in Dublin before 1864 when their eldest that I know about, James, was born. Their second child, also a boy, was named Michael and Mary Anne's father was a Michael. So if the naming convention was being followed their first son would have been a John after Thomas' father. So I am thinking the missing child's name could be John and he was born in Dublin, where Mary Anne was from BTW.

Poor babies, many of the Ford burials are on Ancestry, I'll send you some details and you can see if they fit in with your family.

Hi Tina,
An update... Thanks to MaryA and Col some of those deaths are mine and while I already had some detail of a few of them the baptism and burial records have filled in a lot of gaps.

It may have also taken the lid of one particular 'can of worms'! I knew one of my g.father's 3 sisters had had a child out-of-wedlock and the child died within a couple of years. Unusually the father had acknowledged the child by putting his name on the birth cert. She then married the father 5 years later when she was again pregnant by him (? hmmm  ?) and he turned out to be already married... the swine!

From the familiar addresses it now seems that she had three or more children before she married, none of whom survived. Oh the scandal of it all... :)
