Follow Up to the Scrope Colquitt Saga

Post by MaryA »

Weird thing happened when I was scrolling through All Saints, Childwall burials looking for some of mine, sitting next to Katie at the time who said that our Daggers had been mentioned in the Liverpool Echo about the John Scrope Colquitt celebrations. Suddenly in front of my eyes, there was the burial in May 1782 for Mr Scrope Colquitt buried on the 14th!!! Spooky or what

Odd! I have not seen the paper itself, but as Peter Elson telephoned me last week about the Colquitt event, I was able to tell him about the local input. I also got an email today telling me that Scrope Colquitt, who I guess means the father of the Grenadier officer, was educated at Merchant Taylor's, Crosby, and my informant has seen the name carved there.

The burial I found may be his father? or even uncle perhaps?

One of our members asked me for your contact details Daggers he said he may have a sketch of one of the Colquitts. I assume it was him. I remember when I was organising a Heritage day for Whiston and I started bumping into people who had Whiston heritage and I was able to get loads of pictures.
