Help to find marriage please

Post by slewis »

Hi
I have not been able to find a marriage for a James Cheetham a boatman born abt 1838 father James, and Hannah Stainer born about 1839 Yorkshire, daughter of John .
I have found Hannah with her parents in 1851 in Liverpool and with James and baby daughter Mary in 1861 on the vessel Princess Royal Howard Street Liverpool. I know Hannah died in 1872
If any one can find a marriage for them I would really appreciate it
kind regards Sue

Hi Sue

Is it your tree on Ancestry, has Hannah dying 1872 and James remarrying Elizabeth Eaves in 1878?

You can only know for sure from the birth certificate of one of the children - what does this give?

On the Ormskirk Family History website they have a link to Boat families

On that link you'll find you James Cheetham listed as born 1838 Halsall with his baptism, parents, and children. They site Hannah Stainer as his wife but no marriage. Also give her death date and his new wife Elizabeth Eaves and the date of that marriage.

There's loads of information on the site about the Cheetham family on the site.

That's a good find Hilary :D :D

I've been looking at son Henry... the Ormskirk site states that his birth cert confirms mother'a maiden name Stainer. It also says he married Rose Harris at West Derby Reg office in 1904, source being Lancs BMD's but no confirmation of sight of marriage entry

There is a marriage in Liverpool records I thought was young Henry b c 1869
Image

so could get very confusing :? got your work cut out with the Cheethams Sue

btw John Milroy and Ellen Milroy witnesses...they married in 1874, John Milroy / Ellen Cheetham

yikes :!:

maybe Rose is a 2nd marriage :?:  do you know any more about Henry, Sue :?:

and now I can't get on Ancestry at all to check it all out further :x

The Henry Cheetham who married Mary Cheetham is the son of James Cheetham and Cicely Johnson. He was born 1863 in Halsall.

Mary Cheetham daughter of Robert Cheetham and Ann Shaw was born in Liverpool in 1866. Her father was brother to your James Cheetham as they were both sons of James Cheetham and Elizabeth Alty.

Have fun on the Ormskirk site!
