Hi Holly
The Stadium was somewhere in the middle or back of Tithebarn Street I think, over the road from the top of Moorefields. I started to go by myself when I was 13 or 14 but missed out on Hawkwind. I can still taste the smell of Patchouli oil in my mouth even today
Tony
added a bit later - Bixteth Street apparently

Does anyone remember the Wrestling? 1960?
Jack Pye and the old girl who sat in the front row and belted him with her umbrella?
I was there the night Count Bartelli lost for the first time and took off his mask...someone in the crowd yelled, "you're ugly Count, put ya mask back on"
GR8 daze

Thank you for your replies. I can just about remember it now! Don't remember the underground passage though. Remember an underground club called the Metro - and finally Exchange Station, what a place and what memories, meeting boyfriends near the bar and being moved on by the police - Moi !!! Happy Days -

I remember going to see Billy Two Rivers the Red Indian (Sorry Native American) with the Mohican haircut. Great wrestling, Jack Pye and all the others but Billy was my favourite.
All fixed but good fun.

Hi folks
Some revelations here!
Holly moved on for loitering.
Eileen into Mohicans...
Mary vague about the location..probably too far away from the pubs on the Dock Road.
All wise cracks aside, yes the lady with the brolly didn't belt Jack Pye, only the opposition.
I luved the tag team at the end..
We were only poor but we had fun!!

Boxing Stadium
Thanks for all the memories. Spent many a Friday night at the stadium. I remember the referee, think his name was Ross, who was also a wrestler and very often got involved in the fights.
The old Stadium was in St Paul's Square, between Old Hall St and East St, facing the Cross Keys pub which I think is still there, surrounded by new stuff. St P's church had been there earlier.
The underground passage below the tracks was Prussia Street, there before the railway and still named at both ends - spooky at times!
As well as the usual boxing and wrestling, the Phil held some Prom Concerts at the Stadium in the '50s - a forerunner of the Summer Pops etc.
