Henry McClean, Ardnaglass, Co.Antrim, Ireland.

I need the help of a researcher with local knowledge to help me move forward with my grandfather's Irish grandfather. I'm floundering in an Irish bog atm. Does anybody know anybody who can help?

Some of our forum members have had some small amount of luck with Irish research, why not give them a chance to try to help first. Post the details you have and if all else fails perhaps somebody will be able to recommend a good - reasonably priced - researcher in Ireland.

I'm afraid my experience has been that they charge extortionately and I declined the offer made to me.

Hi,
Since your 'quagmire' is up in the wee North why not send an email to the Society of Genealogists Northern Ireland here http://www.sgni.net/ and ask their advice.

There's also Rootschat http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php
Navigate to the Ulster section and post a message seeking help.

Hi Blue,
Thanks for the heads up. The poster's name rang bells for me but I didn't chase it down to a previous thread.

The parish records may not exist or may not be online yet it would be a good idea to e-mail one of the pay-to-view sites such as Ulster Historical Foundation just to ask them about the availability of records for Ardnaglass before you consider paying for research. I contacted the one for County Cavan and they were very helpful about the availability of different parish records:-
