Hi Crew :)
I was going to have a look in the census 10yrs after 1901 but dreaded looking for O'Neill etc etc.
Just put in David bn 1882 no surname & trawled through.
He's there as O space Neill..no one else listed through the freebie look up.
West Derby district bn Lpool.

Tina
I've found 2 x Charles & one Edith as O space Neill also Robert 14..

Charles O'Neill from Armagh?

Post by dickiesam »

Hi folks,
Found 10 birth/baptism records [1850 to 1860] for Charles here: http://www.rootsireland.ie/

Church Baptism O'Neill Charles 1855 Co. Armagh
Church Baptism O'Neil Charles 1856 Co. Armagh
Church Baptism O'Neill Charles 1856 Co. Armagh
Church Baptism O'Neill Charles 1856 Co. Armagh
Church Baptism O'Neill Charles 1856 Co. Armagh
Church Baptism O'Neil Charles 1857 Co. Armagh
Church Baptism O'Neill Charles 1853 Co. Armagh
Church Baptism O'Neile Charles 1858 Co. Armagh
Church Baptism O'Neill Charles 1859 Co. Armagh
Church Baptism O'Neill Charles 1859 Co. Armagh

The site is free to search but charges 5 Euro [about £4.25] to see a record's content.

Like Tina I can't find an England/Wales marriage 1875 to 1916. I think they either married in Ireland [possible but doubtful] or one party was already married but separated. Divorce was virtually impossible and they were RC anyway so it would be a 'no-go' area. I reckon they put down 30 years married in 1910-12ish to 'protect' the children from nosy officialdom!

Problem is that without his father's name it is going to be very difficult to check the Armagh records. It is possible he followed the 'Irish naming tradition' and named his first-born son after his father.

Hi Tina,
I think they are suffering from the delusion that affluent Americans with deep pockets are still looking for their elusive ancestors! Unfortunately it was the many US seekers-for-roots that initially enabled the Heritage Centres to charge such high prices for services in the first place.

Don't I know that, when I enquired with Yola in Wexford it would have cost me 15 Euros (about time they started putting a Euro sign on keyboards!) just to get an estimate of how much a look up would cost!

Honor Lewis?

Post by dickiesam »

Hi,
Looked for Honor Lewis in the 1861 census if she was born in Feb. Didn't find her or an Annie with parents John and Charlotte. So checked births and found only one Honor Lewis born 1860 to 1862 in Lancashire:
Births Jun 1861> LEWIS, Honor - Liverpool - 8b - 229.

Puzzled by the Feb date I then checked for a marriage..
Marriages Jun 1853 - Liverpool - 8b - 250 - Calloway, Charlotte and Lewis, John.

From that I found the family in 1861 but Honor's name appears to be Hannah, a name more easily familiarised to Annie..
1861:
LEWIS, John - Head - 29 - Cotton Porter - Liverpool.
LEWIS, Charlotte - Wife - 27 - Manchester.
LEWIS, Mary Ann - Dtr - 11 - Scholar - Liverpool.
LEWIS, Hellen - Dtr - 7 - Scholar - Liverpool.
LEWIS, Hannah - Dtr - 0 (5 Weeks) - Liverpool.
Address: 2 Skelhorn Court, Skelhorn Street, Liverpool.
RG number: RG09 / Piece:2690 / Folio:41 / Page:34.

Hi Tina,
Still a bit of a mystery about Hannah/Honor though. She is listed in 1861 as being 5 weeks old but the only 'H??' birth that would fit is this one... Births March qtr 1861: LEWIS, Harriet Annie - W Derby - 8b - 315.

My thought now is she may have been registered late and the Honor birth registration Jun 1861 - LEWIS, Honor - Liverpool - 8b - 229 is her after all. The mother had 6 weeks to register the birth and the census was was taken on the night of 7 April, so a 'legal' registration in the June qtr is possible.

Need to look on Anc for her birth or Baptism.
