Vincent Gaffney Gangs of New York

Post by Tina »

Hi Possums :)
Vinnie died a violent death in Manhattan May 1931, had his throat cut & was left in the gutter. Pay back time
He had been "clean" for quite a few years, long memories back then.
I'd like to ask if anyone has Anc USA if they could find his death please and hopefully his age?
One of the very few men who escaped from Sing Sing.
He was a member of the Goffer Gang, Hell's Kitchen N.Y
No record of his arrival in US as he jumped ship along with Martin (don't ask me which one  ).
It seems Martin when to Chicago & escaped from the mob, made his way back to Ireland where he hid for the rest of his life. A watch made in N.Y has been handed down through the Gaffney cousins.
I've all the info on Vinnie's trials, escape, etc from N.Y Times even a photo of the Goffer gang, talk about smiling assasins..
Thanks
Tina

Hi Blue
Thanks so much, Vinnie lied about his in newspaper reports!
I didn't think to use the site, because Vinnie was Irish.. :)
Thank you too for pm's with details of death cert purchase.
I probably won't bother at this stage until I've done some more research. Don't really want to read the gruesome details

Cheers me dear

Hi Tina

My Great Grandfather Patrick had a sister that went to Chicago in the early 1900s there were all sorts of stories in the family about gangsters. She was buried in the same cemetery as Al Capone.

Hi Blue
I can imagine the stories!!
Al Capone was buried between his father & brother but later they moved them to another cemetery.....

Hi Tina

The original place Al Capone was buried Mount Olivet is where Mary Ann McMullen, Patrick Holland's sister, is buried. They had to move Al Capone at a later date.
