Toxteth Street 1910-12
Toxteth Street 1910-12
I was searching on the census index for a family in Toxteth Street and found 43 all of the same surname! Can anyone tell me how many houses there were in Toxteth Street and also whether Providence buildings was a part of that street?
Thanks in advance

Hi Barbara,
Can't say how many houses there were in Toxteth Street, but it was quite a long street, running between Park Street and Harlow Street. The houses were three story and I think some had cellars and had multiple occupation. So the "family" could have lived in a few houses. My family lived just round the corner in Park Street and a number of married brothers and sisters shared the same house which was similar to the houses in Toxteth Street.

Thanks to all for the great response. The name I was researchig is Peers. I'm really looking for William, b1871, his wife Catherine, b 1874 and their children. The problem is there were multiple Catherines - every Peers man seemed to have married one! I'm also not sure now which children belong to them or to another family. I thought I'd found the right one in Providence Buildings which is why I asked about that location.
i wish Anc** would hurry up and put the flippin' full thing on line!

Hi Erika
William Peers was a dock labourer in 1901.
I had a look at the index for the unmentionable census and there is a William, born 1872 also Catherine, b 1873 who are living in Toxteth Street. Don't know if it's the right pair. Their children were, I think, Henry,b 1895, Catherine,b 1898, Annie Elizabeth,b 1902. There are others and they went on to have more after 1912 - that's if I've got the right family!

Hi Barbara
Unfortunately directories only give householders name so I can't give you any definite matches
No William Peers as dock labourers listed.
I agree I wish An****** would hurry up and put the full census online.
Perhaps you could ask in a roundabout way if anyone with FMP could look them up for you
Cheers

Hi Tina
Yes to all questions. The Georgina was my great aunt by marriage. I have just had contact from her son in Canada who doesn't know anything about his Mum's family. I had done some research and was trying to update. Thanks to all efforts here I'm now a bit further forward.
Cheers

Hi all,
I have come into this rather late owing to a faulty broadband connection that was finally fixed today. It's good to be back!
Found 11 'dwellings' listed in Providence Buildings, Toxteth Park, in that sshhh census.

As for the census, if you were to put a gin in the schweppes I'd be well suited!
