As Ellen Johnson is a fairly common name I suggest you purchase Ellen's marriage certificate which will give her father's name. That way you hopefully can identify Ellen and her fatherr in the 1911 census.

I looked Ellen up on the CWGC website. How sad she died with 4 of her children? Her poor husband to receive that news.

This site has some information

Hi lemondog :)
I'm amazed, in the census taken 10 yrs after 1901 there is only one Ellen Johnson aged 3yrs in Lpool.
It could be worth buying some credits to view.

As the marriage is listed as registry office or registrar attended were the couple RC? If they were it might be worth just trying the register of the nearest RC church to where they were living.

Sometimes there is just no way backwards but to buy a certificate.

Using the free index only I have managed to establish that the people living in the household with this Ellen are Robert age 34, Bridget age 30 and "Hatherine" age 6.

Hi folks,
The info from MaryA, from that nameless census, has led to this:
Marriages Mar 1897> Johnson, Robert and Regan, Bridget - Liverpool - 8b - 153.

During the 14 years from 1897 they appear to have had 7 children, only 4 of whom survived. Don't know where the other two are in the Free Index.

Subject to correction I think this is the family in 1901..
JOHNSON, Robert - Head - Married - 24 - General Carter - Liverpool.
JOHNSON, B [sic!] - Wife - 22 - Fruit Hawker - Liverpool.
JOHNSON, Mary Ann - Dtr - 4 - Liverpool.
JOHNSON, John - Son - 1 - Liverpool.
Address: 28 Trueman Street, Liverpool.
RG13 / Piece:3413 / Folio:19 / Page:29.

There isn't a Bridget Johnson who fits in Lancashire in 1901, which is another reason I think this is the family. Ten years later they are living at 1 House, 1 Court, Trueman Street.

And about Hatherine! A slip of the pen? Take your pick!
Births 1905:
March qtr>
Johnson, Catherine Liverpool 8b 27
Johnson, Catherine Liverpool 8b 96
June qtr>
Johnson, Catherine W. Derby 8b 506
Johnson, Catherine W. Derby 8b 330

There are also too many Ellen's born 1908 [+/- 1] to make an accurate call.

We need that marriage cert to confirm her father's name as Hilary suggested. There is no other way around it.

Marriages Mar 1931: Johnson , Ellen and Twigg, John - Liverpool - 8b - 192.

Hi Barb

I take it its your tree on Ancestry..Ellen & John Twigg have a son Robert..so The Robert & Bridget seem to be the likely candidates
