Bond sisters emigration to Canada

Post by big g »

I need some help please - don't have full subs to A**.

I am helping a relative research their family tree.

The two sisters who emigrated to Canada were Edith and possibly Gertrude, known as Edie and Cis. Gertude born 1890 and Edith born 1896, both Altcar, Lancashire.

I have the whole family 1901 living Cripps Farm, Altcar, in 1910/1912 ish, living Gore House, Altcar, minus Edith and Gertrude.

Would like to know the date they emigrated, also if possible, their marriage details ????

Any help appreciated - thank you.

Without their married surnames it will be very difficult to trace the sisters. You could look on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk amd www.freebmd.org.uk for possible marriages. Altcar was in Ormskirk Registration district.

All the local libraries in North Merseyside have access to the full Ancestry site for free. The site has some Canadian arrivals on it.

Outgoing passenger lists from the UK are on www.findmypast.co.uk this is a subscription website and their terms and conditions do not allow look ups

Please post the census page reference for the 1901 sighting of the family and their surname.

With the birth years you have given Edith would have been abt 6 in 1901 and Gertrude abt 11. Ten years later only Gertrude would have been old enough to have married. The mention of Canada raises the possibility that both girls may have been caught up in the scandalous Children to Canada emigration scheme.

Thanks Hilary and Dickiesam,

Edith was working as a general domestic servant in 1910/1912, at The Thorns, Southport Road, Lydiate, for Wm.Rcd Lamb, solicitor.
So she would have been at least 15 yrs old when she emigrated.

Her sister Gertrude was in 1901/12 a general domestic servant at Tickles Farm, Altcar, to Richard Tickle.

She had the following sisters -
Alice Ann -1887 nil after 1901
Gertrude - 1890 1911
Lillie - 1897 1911
Margaret - 1900 1911 - married 1925 locally Edmund Orritt
Bertha - 1904 1911 -married 1927 locally Thomas Orritt
Lizzie - 1905 1911
Annie - 1907 1911 - married 1934 locally Edward Rimmer

The reference for 1901 is - RG13/3532/1/8.

I had already looked on the two bmd sites, but couldn't find marriages for Alice Ann, Edith, Gertrude, Lillie or Lizzie.

There is a Cis in another part of the family, her given name was Mary Ellen !!!!

Hi G
I thought the 2 girls had gone to Canade before 1911 looking at your first post.
That's why I mentioned Home Children.

Emigration?

Post by dickiesam »

Assuming the marriages that Hilary found are correct, I haven't find a match for Edith or Gertrude leaving the UK up to 1930. Maybe they left later?

For Gertrude's marriage I found these Tickle nee Bond births up to 1930...
TICKLE, Mary - Ormskirk - 1919 - Mar qtr.
TICKLE, John - Ormskirk - 1920 - Dec qtr.
TICKLE, Richard W - Ormskirk - 1921 Sep qtr.
TICKLE, John - Ormskirk - 1925 - Dec qtr
TICKLE, Thomas - Ormskirk - 1928 - Dec qtr.

From the Edith Bond to Gore, there was only one Gore nee Bond birth listed for Lancashire...
GORE, Doreen - West Derby - 1930 - Jun qtr.
A bit late? Or is this another Gore/Bond marriage?

Thanks everyone for the help and interest shown in the Bond family.

I am still trying to put together all the information found for me by kind folk on this site and the Bootle History site.

I now know that Lily married, possibly a Philpott, and their address in Canada, not sure about Edith as she appears to be still single in 1934.

Again, all your help very much appreciated.

Silly me had first posted this plea for help on the Liverpool site, completely forgetting the experts on here............
I rather think "the Liverpool site" feel quite slighted by that remark. Perhaps you could have let us know you were duplicating the forums.

Mary,

I am so very sorry that I have upset you and other members; it was not intended.

I have been a member on the Bootle site almost since the start of it, and have met quite a few of the others members at the meet-ups, which means we have a quite relaxed way of posting. I did not for one minute intend to cause offence.

It didn't enter my old head (I'm in my 70's) to explain that I was duplicating the plea for help on another site - I will remember this in the future.

Again my sincere apologies to you all.

Lovely apology big G which I'm sure forum members will accept.
We do get a bit carried away with our search for answers, trying every avenue.
Don't get too stressed me dear.
