George A Grosart was born THOMPSON, on 18th April 1917 at 144a Brownlow Hill, Abercromby, Liverpool. Because I do not live in Liverpool now, can anyone help me if this address still exists? Later in the year I will be visiting the are but if it is demolished etc. it would be of assistance.

Hi,
That address 144A Brownlow Hill is the 'discreet' code for Brownlow Hill Workhouse. George was almost certainly born in the Infirmary attached to the workhouse. The workhouse infirmaries were the NHS of the day, offering treatment for those unable to afford to pay.

We will all be very interested to hear if you find a link between the Thomson and the Grosart families. It's certainly been quite a circuitous journey to find who he was, but now for the connection.... His birth was several years before adoptions were formalised and a legal framework put in place.

The name THOMSON (without the letter P) appears in various names in the ancestral line. The name with the letter P I can only find as a middle name for Andrew Thompson Grosart. I am satisfied that he was far too young to be involved.
Because the birth certificate does not show the name of his father, just a line drawn through his name column and ocupation column, it only leaves one more lead to explore. In the column for the name of his mother is an address of 22 Springfield U.D.
