Hello folks and Happy New Year
Just found a relation Lance Corporal Victor Henry Fox who was a Gunner Bombedier in 82nd Brigade Roayl Field Artillery in WW1. He was born in 1898 I am told and at one time he lived in London or thereabouts.
Havent got much to work on at present but could anyone advise where I could trace his service records and maybe I could take it from there.
Thanks so much
Jay

Victor Henry Fox
Hello Jay,
Don't know if you have him in 1901..
FOX, Hannah - Head - Widow - 48 - Laundress - Bradford, Wiltshire.
FOX, John - Son - 16 - Dispensary Porter - Hendon, Middlesex.
FOX, Alice M - Dtr - 11 - Hendon, Middlesex.
FOX, Victor H - Son - 3 - Hendon, Middlesex.
Address: 7 Oak Villas, Hendon, Middlesex.
RG number: RG13 / Piece:1228 / Folio:12 / Page:15.
He's certain to be in the 1911 Census http://www.1911census.co.uk/ where searching is free but you pay for access to record content.
He would appear to have survived the Great War but the only records of his service you are likely to find are the Medal Cards and Pension records. You may be really lucky and find service records. However many of these records did not survive the WW2 Blitz but there's a good chance of finding him on Ancestry and the National Archives. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline
I found his Medal Card fairly quickly on the NA site. It will cost £2 to download the pdf file:
Medal card of Fox, Victor H.
Corps / Regiment / No / Rank
Royal Field Artillery 22611 Gunner
Royal Field Artillery 22611 Bombardier
Date 1914-1920 Catalogue reference: WO 372/7

This site will give you more about the Royal Field Artillery, the Battery, and the WW1 army in general, including a section on tracing:

You are very fortunate that the service records have been found: most were destroyed in the WW2 Blitz.

Wow, thanks
Thank you all so very much. Great information and at such speed.
Gives us lots to work on, I would never have been able to get this far myself.
All the best

Hi Jay,
In case you didn't have it, here's a likely marriage. The only other possibility up to 1925 is in Southwark. Your Victor's from Hendon so...
Marriage Mar qtr 1922> FOX, Victor H to SKELTON, Lillian - Hendon - 3a - 49.
