Missing records at Liverpool Record Office

Post by dlh1 »

I'm looking for some baptism records for the Kirkdale area and don't seem to be able to find them at the record office. I'm not sure of the exact church but know they grew up along the scotland road area.

I'm looking for:
Mary Francis Nolan b 18 Sep 1942 - possibly St John's, Fountain road
Edward Nolan b 23 Jan 1922
Susannah Eakins b 29 Oct 1920

I hope someone can help me.

I'm not sure what you mean by your first sentence. Have you searched in every church whose records are held at the Record Office?

According to the Liverpool Record Office Catalogue they hold the registers of St John RC Kirkdale

RefNo 282 JNK
Title St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Kirkdale
Date 1872-1941
Extent 10 volumes
AccessConditions Available on microfilm only

They are on film so will be available at the record office in the World Museum Liverpool

If you look at the catalogue page and put in Kirkdale in the any text and then 283 in the Ref No you get a list of the holdings of C or E churches and then repeat with 282 for RC churches.

If they are not in St John you will have to widen the search to a neighbouring church. I would base your search on the address at birth of one of the children. As you don't know the church it could be quite a long search.

Hi

As Hilary says - you would have to search through the records of every church to find them.

You also need to bear in mind that christenings/baptisms could take place weeks/months and sometimes years after a birth so without knowing which church or the date - you could spend some considerable time at the RO
