Hi and welcome to the forum. I hope that we have a forum member who may be able to translate your message better than I can and also if there are any replies for you. I will try my best to translate first of all.

I live in Mexico, I am seeking the family of my grandfather Alfred William Smith, he was born in Liverpool approximately 1876, arrived in Mexico in 1911 or 1912, he married Eloisa Ochoa, had seven children and never left Mexico, never ?? communicated with his family, we know he had two siblings, Henry and Ann Mary. I would like to find out more details of my grandfather's family if anybody has any information to share I would appreciate hearing from you.

.......... or words to that effect anyway.

Might I ask whether marriage certificates in Mexico give any information like those in England, such as father's name and occupation?

Amended number of children - my mix up!

There only appears to be one William Alfred Smith born in the Liverpool area at the time you give. His birth registration details are

I would suggest you use these details to order his birth certificate inline from www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates This is the General Register Office of England and Wales

This may be your man in the 1881 census

Just realised I have posted about a William Alfred SMITH and you asked for Alfred William SMITH. However there is no Alfred William SMITH registered in the Liverpool area around 1876.

I do not know the names of the parents of my grandfather, Alfred William was a naval engineer, the reason he came to Mexico was to deliver a ship that Mexico purchased from England, I don't have much data, because my grandfather never returned to (UK) or communicated with his parents and siblings. Until then, thank you

Thank you for your help Susan, I thought there was something wrong with my translation about the siblings but my knowledge of spanish is left over from schooldays and can't be relied upon. Indeed it would have failed after much more.

We still need to have confirmation of Alfred William's father - the information from the marriage certificate is needed, if it helps.

I hope our Education Officer has discovered the correct family, it wouldn't be unusual for people to be known by their middle name.
