Henry Twist married Elizabeth Duke on 10 November 1856, Holy Trinity Church, Walton on the Hill. Henry's father shown as William Twist, Gardener and Elizabeth's father as John Duke, Gardener.
Need to know DOB and exact parents for both Henry Twist and Elizabeth Duke as there are a couple of possibilities but need to confirm which is the correct one.
Also, their children's names were John Talbot Twist and Henry Helesby Twist. Does anyone know of any connection to Talbot & Helesby?
Thanks Jan - all the information I have is from their marriage certificate.
Henry Twist 24yrs and Elizabeth Duke 25yrs. Henry's father William Twist was deceased at the time of their marriage. Place of birth, Liverpool.
They were married in 1856 and then immigrated to Australia, so Henry & Elizabeth are not shown on any Census'.
Have done a search and found a couple of possibilities, but need to be sure before I go delving further.
Hi Maggie
Are you sure their place of birth was Lpool on cert or was it place of residence?
I'm curious...1841 has both people but not living in Lpool
Thanks

There is a Henry Twist in the 1841 census with father William, a farmer and living in West Derby. The age is a couple of years out but that's not too unusual, is it? Does the marriage certificate give William's profession and does it show Elizabeth's father?
Hope this helps
Barbara
Hi Barbara
Elizabeths father was John
see earlier post.

When quoting from a marriage certificate, please give full details as all are very important. Occupations, ages, addresses all give clues as to where to look for them and witnesses are often family members so can also be investigated.

Liverpool may be just one of those little slips sometimes made as to place of birth. The only Elizabeth I could see in Lancs with a father John is here in 1841:
DUKE, John - 55 - 1786 - Ag labourer - Lancashire.
DUKE, Elizabeth - 53 - 1788 - Lancashire.
DUKE, Elizabeth - 12 - 1829 - Lancashire.
DUKE, Ann F - 10 - 1831 - Lancashire.
DUKE, Agnes - 5 - 1836 - Lancashire.
Address: Dalton, Dalton In Furness, Lancashire.
Registration district: Ulverstone.
RG number: HO107 - Piece: 529 - Book/Folio: 2/19 - Page: 3.
I reckon this could be her in 1851, a servant in the household of a Minister:
WELTON, Henry Nelson - Head - Md - 47 - 1804 - Incumbant Curate Of Ireleth - Whicham, Cumberland.
WALTON, Mary - Wife - 40 - 1811 - Incumbent Wife - Bootle, Cumberland.
then children.... and then:
DUKE, Elizabeth - Servant - Single - 22 - 1829 - House Servant - Dalton,
Lancashire.
Address: Village Of Ireleth, Division Or Chapelry Of Ireleth, Lancs.
Registration District: Ulverstone.
RG number: HO107 - Piece: 2275 - Folio: 159 - Page: 16.
