Owens of West Derby

Post by rick_it_2004 »

Hi Everyone

I have a branch of my family, Owens, in West Derby. John George (1869) and Richard Albert (1871) were the sons of John (1838), who was the son of the wonderfully named Chadwalander (~1817).

I would love to hear from anyone with any information on my Owens branch.

Regards, Richard

Hi Rick
I'm guessing you don't need any census etc info?
If you could give some street addresses and dates where your Owens lived, it could jog some memories.
All the best

well, the 1881 census shows that the brothers are living apart, John is a boarder in West Derby (2 Holdsworth St) and Albert is living with an aunt Elizabeth and Uncle James Pearson at 18 West Beach, Lytham. I don't have a 1871 census for them unfortunately, though feel free to check, I could be simply going blind!

1871 Toxteth Park, The Elms cottage
John Owens 30 coachman/dom serv bn Wales
Margaret 34 bn Wharles Lancs, Mary E 6 bn Broadgreen
John 4 bn Lpool.

Sorry Rick which ancestor?

By the way, Margt & John have a son Reuben 1891 census, the Uncle Pemberton was also Reuben.
So perhaps not an Auntie connection at all.

Added:
Ancestor Cadwallader yes?
John Owens lists his birthplace as Denbigh

Lo tis me again :)
You could be right about another Auntie
1881 Reuben (Reben) coachbuilder is listed as brother married in Lytham
Head of the house is Mary A Pemberton 50 unm lodging house prop.
Both born "Warles" plus Reuben's kiddies Mary A & John J.

1871 Reuben with his wife Frances & the two kids listed above.

I'd love to find all the Pembertons with their folks including Margaret.

That's a surprise, her baptism in Blackburn yet she always states Wharles as her birthplace & so do her siblings.
Have you the family in 1841 census??
Some of the entries for Margaret are member submitted in IGI.
I'd be wary.

Well if Rick is in agreement that this is the right family, it will hopefully be straight forward to get their mother's maiden name.

Birth of Reuben Pemberton Q1 1839 Fylde Lancashire 21 395

I was wondering about two marriages for the father to explain the two names, but there's no real gap between the children is there? I really do think Blackburn is too far away from Preston. (Wharles)

Hi Mary
Thanks very much for reply and about Blackburn being too far away.
Little Reubens birth will sort it out as you said.
We will have to wait until we get a reply.
I'd say Blackburn is a no show.

Thanks Mary :)
I hope so!
I've found the John & Ellen mentioned, Blackburn marriage.
They are in 1851 both born Blackburn & their kiddies, no Reuben listed.

I've found the Pemberton's in 1851
Reuben transcribed as ...............wait for it  PASEBIN

They're farming at Walton Hall Farm, Walton le Dale all listed as born Kirkham.
(Gen UK have Wharles as a hamlet in the chapelry of Kirkham)
Ellen from 1841 may have married as they have a grandson John Jackson.
The other girls unmarried, boys all there, only one missing is Margt.
HO107/2268/4/1

Back to Ellen, marriage Old Fylde R.O
Ellen Pemberton to Thomas Jackson 1848.
