BLACKLERS EMPLOYEES

Post by Jean Raza »

I know its a long shot but is anyone aware if there are papers relating to Blacklers employees? I am thinking of the mid 1920s onwards.

Hope everybody well and not affected by the rain.

Thanks

Jean

I hate to post a negative response but I can find no mention of any archives being held for Blacklers in the Liverpool Record Office. Perhaps you could email them and ask if they know any better.

We'd be interested in hearing their response.

Thanks for your prompt response. I'll e mail them now and let you know if there is anything to report.

I read a while back that George Harrison was an apprentice electrician at Blacklers but he is not a relative of mine!

Cheers

Yes I saw that from a link on Wikipaedia.

That's a shame you aren't related, I'm sure he wouldn't have forgotten you in his Will

Blacklers records

Post by dickiesam »

Hi folks,
Lest we forget....
Blacklers was totally gutted during the Blitz in WW2 and possibly all employee records went up in smoke along with everything else. I remember looking at the still-smouldering burned out skeleton of the building.

Thanks everyone who commented.

I have just heard back -

"I am afraid that we have never received the Blacklers Archive and I can't suggest what may have happened to them.

Sorry we can't help."

Appreciate everyones interest.

Blacklers!

Post by dickiesam »

Hello Jean Raza,
Maybe someone should remind them about the war and the blitz that destroyed Blackers? Where's Basil Fawlty?

Blacklers

Post by Gray »

Hi All,

Have pondered about adding this to genealology or to off topics? Mary will shift me if I'm wrong.

When I saw Blacklers Employees.. I just burst out laughing.. In the best possible taste..

My lovely Mom in the 50's was a shoe saleswoman for Blacklers..

She recalled that it had been a "long day" when a lady called in very late in the day. After, and I quote " having showing every shoe size in the store" nothing suited..

Rather fed up, Mom found two cardboard boxes and two pieces of string..
and asked madam, do these fit?

Unfortunately, the buyer was watching and Mum was fired..

Am not sure if she used artist license but it made me laugh.. knowing my mum it was..
