Directory Look Up Please - 1886

Post by MaryA »

I'd appreciate a check for 11 Lucerne Street, Toxteth for around the year 1886 please.

I'm wondering if it was a Thomas Warrington, Insurance Agent, who in 1881 was living at 32 The Elms and in 1891 was in 32 Selbourne Street.

Thanks a lot
Mary

Thanks Tina, even that's a help because now we know that he moved about a bit, I had wondered if The Elms and Selbourne Street were one and the same, must be just coincidence that they lived in number 32 in both censuses.

Hi Mary
I feel they are 2 different places.
1894 has The Elms listed as running off Peel St, cnr No. 10.
Between Belvidere Rd & Wellesley.
Can't find the Elms households listed but Selbourne St is & none of the houses had "names"..

off topic, 2pm here weather fined up after a record downpour nearly 2days. Wedding rolling up on the park opposite.
So many people getting married mid-week, easier to book reception & savings up to 40%.

Thanks a lot Tina, so that's three moves they made in the 10 years, nothing to say they didn't make another one to Lucerne Street also.

Disappointing I can't figure out who was there at the time, but not to worry.

I appreciate your help.

Thank you Mary.
Perhaps his Insurance business meant he had to keep chasing up "books/rounds" as they said in those days??

Hi Mary & Tina,

Both streets are still there, I remember the big old houses in The Elms, they have all gone now and new houses there, I have a friend living there.

Thanks Jan - I've been to Lucerne Street too and taken a photograph, it looks like they are ordinary two up two down terraced houses, which seems quite a bit different from the type of properties the Warringtons lived in.

Still he can't have been with somebody else can he, if he boarded with them both before school and returned after.

Hi Mary :)
Perhaps his health was poor? He moved to cheaper rentals?
