Parr family 1851 census please help

Post by Tina »

Hi Crew :) here's what I have:-

1861 census 76 Jackson St Birkenhead
John Parr 33 bricklayer bn Sefton
Ann M 30 bn Audlam Ches
Sophia E (Elizabeth) 11 bn Standish Lancs (Wigan mar Q 1850)
James 9 bn Sefton, Thomas W 3, George 11 mnths both bn Bhead.
Baptisms have the mother as Ann M or Hannah Maria.

Eileen kindly went to LRO
St Lukes - Marriage
4.3.1849 John Parr - Full Age - Bachelor - Bricklayer of Liverpool - Father James Parr - Builder to
Anne Maria Birds Prince - Full Age - Spinster of Liverpool - Father - William Prince - Farmer
After Banns by W Lawrence
Witnesses James Greaves and Margaret Mc Mackainy. All signed the register.

1871 two younger boys in Bhead Ind. School. Not worrying about James for now.
Sophia E 20 in Wigan listed as niece of Wm & Sophia Ruth Holt (nee Prince)
S.E marries their son James Holt.
(death Anne Maria 1864 Bhead)
Why is 1851 needed?
'Cos certain family members say John Parr married Ann Marsh Wigan june qtr 1850 (after S.E's birth) & she came from Ches.
A.M.B.Prince never left Lpool by all acounts.
Notice the gap between the kiddies.
Could John have married two Ann M's??

I'm sitting on the fence and as they are "fringe" dwellers, I'm not prepared to buy a cert.
Any input greatly appreciated.

Do you need to go any further with this Tina?

The Parr family are in Litherland in 1841 with a fair few siblings to add to your tree.

There are a couple of interesting baptisms on the Cheshire Parish Register Project site

29th October 1826 Elizabeth Brooks Prince - father William - occupation farmer - mother Ann Maria - parish Audlem - residence Buerton

29th June, 1828 - Ann Brooks Prince - father William - occupation farmer - mother Ann Maria - parish Audlem - residence Buerton

What do you reckon? could the middle name of "Bird" be mistaken from Brooks?

Also John, same details, baptism date 25th December, 1824
Sarah, baptism date 5th February, 1823, but with mother Ann, rather than Ann Maria.
Maria Ann, baptism date 23rd September, 1821, again mother's name just Ann.

What a shame - I found a William and Hannah with children Ann and Elizabeth in Middlewich, but he turned out to be a shoemaker.

I reckoned you'd tried Ancestry so tried elsewhere and Sophia popped up straight away.

I wonder what they were doing in Stabdish when Sophia was born?

Hi Ladies
I can't thank you enough for your help. :)
Audlem connection & father's occupation fantastic.
When I posted marr look up request I mentioned that Birds could be Brooks.
I've sent it all off to the Parr patriarch.....
Will keep you posted
Thanks also for 1841 Litherland/Sefton. Elizabeth is widowed by 1851, is a builder employing 26 men.

I've had a lovely reply from the patriarch who said "thanks a bunch" to everyone.
He will sift through all the info & let me know his thoughts.
(btw he's 85 & a true gent but stubborn )
