Hi all
would anybody with a directory for Liverpool circa 1916 please look up 30 Lord Nelson Street. I'd like to know who was listed there and if it was a house/hotel/hostel etc.
thanks
Tony

Hi Tony
My 1911 doesn't list No. 30.
2-28 is Cope Cigar Manfs.
Then it goes to No. 32
Across the road 29&31 is a Temperance Hotel.
Jan has 1914 I'll ask her to have a squizz.
Cheers
Tina

Hi Tina
I had a look at the records I was checking out and both nos 30 and 31 are listed as residence at different times. It must be the hotel then.
thanks for your help Tina.

Lord Nelson Street
Hi Tony,
I realise that the following is from 15 years earlier than the time you are interested in. Just thought it might be useful if you didn't have it already.
From the 1901 census:
Address: 30 Lord Nelson Street.
ROBINSON, William Watson - Head - Married - 39 - 1862 - Collector Of Gov Taxes - Bangor, Carnarvonshire, Wales.
ROBINSON, Agnes M - Wife - Married - 40 - 1861 - Scotland.
ROBINSON, Lena - Dtr - Single - 5 - 1896 - Liverpool.
ROBINSON, Philip Watson - Son - Single - 2 - 1899 - Liverpool.
MCDONALD, Annie - Servant - Single - 19 - 1882 - General Servant - Birkenhead.

30 Lord Nelson Street
Just noticed that on the 1901 even #s 2 to 28 were a single entity occupied by a lone night watchman on the night of the census. Probably a commercial property of some kind such as a factory or warehouse.
I worked on the even-numbered side of Lord Nelson Street in the mid-1950s in very old premises then part of the Automatic Telephone Co. It backed onto Lime Street Station and was pretty extensive. I remember the main entrance was just around from Lime Street and only a few yards up the hill from the back of the Empire Theatre. That was almost definitely #s 2 to 28, with 30 possibly tacked on between 1901 and 1911.
