Catherine (Kitty) James

Post by dickiesam »

Hello Kathleen,
Do I understand correctly that Catherine James was born abt 1880 and in Liverpool? Did Catherine marry in the US or in the UK? Not quite clear from your post.

If Catherine went to the US in 1901 have you found her in the 1910 and 1920 US Censuses?

Just to clarify - are they events ie marriages, that took place in America that you are searching for?

The only surnames you appear to be certain of is Hannah James/Doquite, unfortunately there is nobody listed under the name of Doquite in the 1930 census and no Hannah James who would fit the description you have given in either the 1930, 1920 or the 1910 census.

Is this the same Catherine James who you asked about previously? who you believed went to Boston?

It's confusing when you say she went to both Boston and Montana and also in your previous post that she never married.

I notice that you said in your previous post that you have an Ancestry subs, your first step might be to check the censuses and see what you can come up with, maybe for Hannah since you know more about her, and an address, and see if you can find her living with a Catherine.

You could also check the IGI - www.familysearch.org.uk to see if you can find a marriage/baptism for any children.

Hannah Dolan

Post by dickiesam »

Hi,
The only female Dolan listed as an outgoing passenger from the UK to the USA in Findmypast between 1915 and 1930 is a Mrs H Dolan, bn 1894, leaving Glasgow for New York on the 9th of June 1921. Address given as Dennistown, Scotland.

I think you should check for New York arrivals for your Hannah. Are you sure she wasn't married when she left the UK? Where did you get the Doquite name from?

Catherine (Kitty) James & Hannah Dolan

Post by dickiesam »

Hi Kathleen,
If you haven't done so already, you need to confirm the correctness of the 'new information' before any more searches be undertaken.

This should include the births of both Hannah and Catherine to get their parents names and then finding Kitty in the 1891 census in the 1901 and Hannah in the 1911. Their fathers' names would help in checking any US marriages.

I should have mentioned that I did find Miss Catherine James leaving Liverpool for NY on the 10th of August 1901 aboard the Lucania. Her occupation was listed as 'servant', so perhaps she was travelling with a family?
Good luck,
