Thanks Irene,
You have been a fantastic help to me and have ruled out lots of unwanted certificates. I will send my letter off to the Winsford family of Edward & Annie's daughter first thing Monday and they may have remembered something else that may help.
I imagine my Edward (who came to Australia) would have had letters from England and I shudder to think of them getting thrown in the bin! My father's family came from Teignmouth originally and I have some of the original letters that were sent from Teignmouth to Australia in the 1890's. They tell so much about all of the family members who stayed in Teignmouth. They talk about lots of people from the town also and it is interesting finding these people in the census but also having stories to tell about them. Things like 'Bessie has the Ricketts' and in one they bitch about one of the daughter-in-laws!!
My husband's other grandfather came from Great Harwood, Lancashire and he had the foresight, in the 1960's, to write about his life. Those papers came into my hands and I added photos and made a book from his writings. My children or grandchildren will be very happy about that one day.

Gosh neighbour another vague connection. We used to go to Shaldon, Devon every year for our holidays - camping on the River Teign across from Teignmouth. We have such happy memories of our 2 weeks there during the 50's and early 60's until we came to Oz in 1963. Went back for a visit in 1990 and again in 2007 and included Teignmouth each time in our itinerary. The little ferry boat across the river from Shaldon to Teignmouth was built in 1947 - you still have to walk up the ramp on the sand into the boat - thanks for the memory jog. Hope you find your links

I have an update on Edward Barratt seniors death if anyone is interested.
I decided to have a gamble and I ordered four Barratt certificates in the hope that at least one might be correct but I think I have been a lot luckier than that. They came today and I was 50% lucky.
One was a marriage certificate of my husband's grandfather (a BIG shock to the family) the details I have posted in a previous topic 'Help with finding Edward Barratt - Mystery Man' and the other was the death of Edward Barratt senior.
Edward died 25/05/1923 and the cause of death goes along with what Edward jnr had on his records. Epithelioma of the tongue. Edward jnr had cancer of the mouth written. Ann Barratt was the informant and was living at 5 Rupert Terrace, Garden Lane, Liverpool. Edward died at 107 Rice, Lanc, U?. Not sure where this is?
Edward was 59 giving his year of birth at around 1864. This is so damn confusing because I now have 3 different years of birth for him. The 1891, 1901, 1911 Census all give 1858. The 1911 was written in his own handwriting. His 1886 marriage, with his signature, gives 1861 and his death 1864.
The other 2 certificates I ordered were births for Edward senior. I may be wrong but I think they were the only 2 with the Barratt spelling around that time. One is 1856 and the other 1863. Neither had his father as Edward and that is written on his marriage certificate. Looks like the surname has been spelt Barrett!! Life wasn't meant to be easy...
No luck with Annie's death yet either...
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

I have to ask - you are specifying the criteria of the father's name when you order these birth certificates .... aren't you? If not then you are paying the full price, if you are and it's incorrect at least you get a partial refund.

Thanks for that Tina. Under his occupation it says - of 5 Rupert Terrace a Cabinet Maker Journeyman so he must have been in the hospital section of the workhouse and not a resident.
Mary A - Thanks for that piece of advice. I never knew that... A costly mistake!!
