Retired Postman approximately 1937 - Details?

Post by philrob »

Hi to all readers,

I have an ancestor EDWARD THOMAS ROWLETT who retired from the Post Office very close to 1937. I was wondering does anyone know if there are work records available for long serving postmen? He was given a medal of some sort for his continued long service, following his retirement.

Any help would be appreciated. :D

There appears to be a British Postal Museum and Archive
http://postalheritage.org.uk/ that recently added records to the online catalogue. No idea what they have but it might be worth your while checking out the site or even contacting them to ask the question.

When I have been looking in the London Gazette online I have seen lots of entries for postal workers receiving awards, but have no idea of the details.
Hint - keep your search as simple as possible, and change the input if the first attempts do not work. Use initials with no stops if the full name does not deliver the goods.
