Glass Works in the mid 1800's?

Post by LindaS »

Do any of you know of any Glass Works in Liverpool in the mid 1800's? My Gt Gt's all seemed to work in the Glass industry. Actually they did up to my Dad working there. My Gt Gt moved from Liverpool to St Helens sometime between 1871 & 1881 where he started working at Pilkingtons but I would like to know where he worked in Liverpool before that. He lived in the Leeds St area if thats any help.

Liverpool Glass works

Post by dickiesam »

Hello LindaS,
I understand there were a number of small to medium size glass works in Liverpool, in addition to a thriving ceramics industry. You will find information on one of the glass works here:

There may be others somewhere on the Museum's website.
Cheers,

Thanks Dickiesam
If he worked for the Liverpool Union Glass Works & Pilks brought them out thats probably why he moved to St Helens. I suspect to get a better standard of living
