1841 census help?

Post by daggers »

I have a page from 1841, ref HO 107/519/2, page 53, Township of Everton. The left-hand column appears to be headed 'Breckfield Road South', followed by Barnes Place [?] and Heaton Place. Heaton Place continues on the right-hand column, which ends with Breck Road.
Can anyone please help with locating Heaton Place?
As an extra favour, is it still there in 1851, and do the family of James Oddie still live there?
Many thanks

Hi Daggers
I can't bring up the family in 1841 with the ref you gave.
Perhaps there's a missing link? folio?? book??
There is a James Oddie in 1851 62 Prince Edwin St Everton
agent for Fire & Life Office 44 bn Lpool
Not sure if he's your man.

On the site www.old-maps.co.uk you can find Breckfield Road South which runs between Breck Road and Whitefield Road. Barns Street can be seen on the corner but I don't see Heaton Place. This map is dated 1851.

Haha, just had a look on Tony's map, he has one dated 1838 which is not close enough in to have street names, but I see that right on what would be Breck Road is the Strawberry Gardens. Bet that's why the Strawberry Tavern was so named.

You have been busy while I was out at the shops, and seem to have cracked the problem. I shall now get a damp towel and cool down while working it all out.
Many thanks

I'll share my towel, it's damp from the sweat of trudging around Breckfield Road South

Heaton Place / Eaton Place

Post by dunnyhog »

I have family at 12 Heaton Place in 1852 and again in June 1854. They then lived at 37 Breck Rd in 1859, 1861 and 1868. They then moved to 20 Eaton Place. In 1861 census it was also known as Eaton Plave and Im conviced Heaton and Eaton are one and the same.
It is no longer there but a 1930's map on the .leverpoole site shows it clearly.

Hi and welcome to the forum and thanks for bringing Tony's map to our attention, you could well be right with the spelling of the road, it often depends on who is listening to what is being said and how it's written, doesn't it.
