In looking into the 71 names on the WW1 memorial board at Liverpool Cricket Club, I have failed to find anything about "H. James". The club's membership records do not show anyone of this name, nor do the records of Liverpool (Rugby) Football Club who then shared the premises and the memorial. It is possible that the wrong initial has been given.
In those days most of the players had been at public schools and a high majority served as officers. No-one has been found to fit the bill.
If anyone has any ideas about this man I would be glad to hear from them.

Thanks for your suggestion. He seems a likely candidate as several of those on the memorial lived on the Wirral. His age, too, means that he might not have continued as a Rugby member up to the date of the earliest surviving membership records.
I shall see what else I can gather about him.

Well done Daggers, is that nearly the lot you've identified, or have you many more, I'm sure the crew will be eager to help if they are able!

If I count in the latest 'capture', that is 100%. I have managed to find photos of about 55 of the 71 named on the memorial, some of them very scratchy from m/film and a few more expected when someone is able to scan them for me.
Many thanks to all who have helped in this exercise.
