For queries within the area of Lancashire between the Ribble and the Mersey.
This board covers the areas of all our Groups - Liverpool, Southport, Warrington, Skelmersdale, Leigh and Widnes.
It does seem very much like a slow task, but these often produce results with perseverance. At least these sites that Luxor has pointed out, are available online these days, up until recently a trip to the Emerald Isle and to many different parishes would have been necessary to discover what you now may find within a few hours. Mind you a trip across the water would be welcome for some

It's not very obvious, but the Irish Census has a 'More Search Options' link. Selecting Religion: 'Roman Catholic' throws up 268 RC Mellons in Ireland in 1901.
Use of the County field shows that the great majority of these lived in Londonderry or Tyrone. Some lived in Draperstown, Co. Londonderry. Many would have lived close. According to Wikipedia: 'Draperstown had its name bestowed upon it in 1818 by the Worshipful Company of Drapers...'.
This organisation, over 600 years old, is still going strong. Interestingly: '...the Company has a unique archive relating to its former estate in Northern Ireland which is stored at the Public Record of Northern Ireland (PRONI) where it is available for research.'

You are all amazing, thanks you so much.
I have been away for a while, and not working on the pc - well, it was a great and wonderful surprise getting all your good suggestions and concrete informations.
I have certainly something to work with... I appreciate your help.
As I once wrote, I am working on a book about Mellons in Denmark - all a 'result' og Magaret from Ireland and then Liverpool.
I have searched for many many hours, as you know you do, and have lost hope tp find Margaret (her father Michael etc), but am now encouraged to continue my search. Thanks!
If something comes up, and extra idea, I will not mind that at all;-)
But i have now many ways to go on with, due to you.
Best regards
Danish
I have still not found any new information about Margaret Mellons place of birth in Ireland.
She was born AUG 25, 1847. And her father was Michael Mellon, draper.
When she met a Danish sailor in Liverpool, they got married. And went to Denmark i the early 1870th.
As you can see in the fine replies I have got - the last years - some good and clever people have suggested many inspirational ways to go, and I have learned many new things.
But, where Margeret Mellon came from in Ireland - to Liverpool - and what year, that is still a mystery for me and my Danish family.
If you have new ways to find her, please let me know. I am not very used to this kind of research.
Best
Karsten
I think since you last posted the Collection of Irish Links viewtopic.php?f=14&t=13912#p116895 may have been updated, but perhaps it could be worthwhile browsing the list again. Ancestry and Findmypast, and probably the Genealogist also, continue to add databases to their collections so it's always worth revisiting them every so often.
