James Hopwood

Post by Pete »

I am trying to find where James Hopwood came from. He was born 1804/1806. His father was Thomas Hopwood. They were both shipwrights. James's first marriage was to Winifred Anderton, at St.Martins in the Field, Liverpool, in 1833. She died, and his second marriage was in 1842, at St Peters Liverpool to Isabella Mc Millan. He died from cholera in 1849. On the 1841 census it says he was not from this County(Cheshire) . His six children were all baptized in Liverpool. Can anybody help?

The 1833 marriage wouldn't give you as much information as the later one would, do you have the details? as it would give his father's name and occupation.

20 December 1842 James Hopwood of full age Widower, Shipbuilder of Woodside, Cheshire, father Thomas Hopwood, shipbuilder
married
Isabella McMillan of full age, Widow, of Upper Pitt Street, father John Ross, Master Mariner
Witnesses were Wm Maybrick and William Yates.

There was a Marriage Licence Bond dated 19th December for this that says he was of Liverpool.

Thank you Mary A. for your help, I can now further my research into his original roots, now I know he was from Liverpool. Yes, his father was Thomas Hopwood, a shipwright, but I will have to estimate his age to find out more. Thanks again.
