Southport marriage registration

Hi, if someone was married in Southport in about 1863, would the registration take place in Liverpool, Tarleton or Preston? Or anywhere else for that matter!

I believe it was in Ormskirk RD at that time.

Thanks retiringtype, I presume that would be 8b in GRO records?
