Grifin /Henry family
I am trying to find anybody who can help with finding any relations and/or information about the family of John Griffin (b1876) and Ellen Henry (b1890). Ellen came from Co May and John's parents came from Co Mayo as well.
Any information (no matter how small) gratefully received

Re: Grifin /Henry family
Apologies - forgot to add they lived in Warrington
Re: Grifin /Henry family
Hi Brian and Welcome,
I noticed your tree on Anc and have been unable to find the family, 1911 census.
However, the 1911 Summary Book has a Mr Griffin with the correct amount of occupants, 4 male, 3 female living at 32 James Street, Warrington.
Can any kind soul find the census form for this family? to see who they are.

Re: Grifin /Henry family
You could well be right with this entry, year of birth matches for John, if you are looking on Ancestry search for "Stuffin"
32 James Street, Warrington Ref RG14; Piece: 23141 Enumeration District : 11
Children all at school, born Warrington
John Griffin Head 35 Married 12 years, 6 children born, 5 still living, 1 died, Labourer (General?) Iron Works England Warrington
Hellen 30 Ireland, Castlebar
Thomas 10
Mary 7
John 6
Mathew 4
Mary Ann 18 months
Although my knowledge of Irish geography isn't good, I checked with maps.google.co.uk and Castlebar is in County Mayo which would fit.

Hi Brian
Looking at your tree you have John Griffin born in 1866 and 1876? The 1881 Census for that family shows a John Griffin aged 14 years:-
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QKXF-5798
Do you have John Griffin and Ellen Henry's marriage record? What does it say? They married at St Anne's CE Warrington in 1899 but I can't find any more details online.

Re: Grifin /Henry family
Thank you all for your assistance. I am looking for any existing children/grandchildren/cousins of any of this family on behalf of one of the grandchildren of John Griffin and Ellen Henry. So far not found anybody. Does anybody know of any?
Re: Grifin /Henry family
We may not have any personal knowledge of these people but it doesn't mean we aren't willing to try to research and look for them.BrianStronell wrote:Does anybody know of any?
So if you can give us the details we often try to get clues from such documents.Blue70 wrote: Do you have John Griffin and Ellen Henry's marriage record? What does it say? They married at St Anne's CE Warrington in 1899 but I can't find any more details online.

Before looking for living relations you really need to ensure that your tree is accurate. Census records are important to research but you also need birth or baptism and marriage records to confirm the parentage of people in your tree. By using census records alone you can end up adding wrong people and information to your tree. There are two John Griffins that have been confused in your online tree. You have the parents on your tree for the one born in 1866 while your one appears to have been born in 1876. If you would rather trace living relations rather than research the ancestry of this family it may be better to see if there's a local newspaper in the Warrington area that you could ask to publish an appeal for help in contacting living relations.

Re: Grifin /Henry family
I am 100% sure of my facts. I was given the marriage certificate by their grandson - and yes it was at the church mentioned in Warrington that I now know is an indoor climbing centre. Cannot immediately find it. The only person I know what happened to of any certainty what happened is James Griffin (1916-1954). Have quite a bit of his history. (mainly away from Warrington). Again I have birth, death and marriage certificate for him. It is the same family as lived in Turner St and James St in 1901 and 1911. Anybody have any knowledge of what happened to any of the rest of the family or at least sources where I may be able to look? I think James' father died when most of them were still children around 1918. Is it possible they were taken into the workhouse or similar or maybe school records?
Thank you
Thank you
Re: Grifin /Henry family
What happened to Ellen Griffin/Henry?
Possible,
A marriage took place, Warrington, 1920, James Murray/Ellenor Griffin.
Between 1920/30, no children born with the Murray/ Griffin, combination, which may suggest Griffin was not her maiden name.
3 children were born 1921/24, Liverpool, Ann j Murray, James Murray, Elizabeth Murray, mothers maiden name, Henry.
No marriage in the area for, Murray/ Henry. that I could find.
Worth more investigation.

I help people research backwards researching forward to living relations is usually a bit of a no-no for privacy reasons. You may have watched TV programmes like "Family Finders" or "Heir Hunters" we don't do that type of research on here we don't look for living people in fact we don't usually mention them online. What you are trying to do involves a lot of hard work if you are trying to search records in order to get to living people. You need to follow the lines of the children and try to find marriages and children for them. The 1939 Register on Find My Past may be useful. There are online sites that provide electoral register information for the most recent years and local phone books could help provide contact details. There are a lot of children to work with:-
The children on the 1911 Census:-
Thomas Griffin bc 1901 Warrington
Mary Ann Griffin bc 1903 Warrington
John William Griffin bc 1905 Warrington
Matthew Griffin bc 1907 Warrington
Maria Griffin bc 1909 Warrington
Then another 4 children born in Warrington in 1912, 1914, 1916 and 1919. Then possibly another 3 children born in Liverpool mentioned by Bert. I don't have any knowledge of the Warrington area perhaps there is a local newspaper or a Facebook page where you can make an appeal for help directly to any descendants that might be easier for you.
