Hi
First post after joining the forum, so hello to you all. I have been researching my family for only a short time, continuing the work my mum started before she passed away last xmas. My tree is on Ancestry if you are bored and want a look http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/77127096/family.
I have an ever growing list of graves that I would like to visit but as the death index only shows the area i.e Liverpool North, Crosby, etc then I think a visit to the records office is needed. Is it a simple task to track down which cemetery and which grave number with basic info as in Name, birth, death and death index ref or will I need to know a more specific area/cemetery to find them. I guess all the records are separate for each cemetery and not centralised?. I have found some graves through the various websites that offer info but it is limited.

Re: Records office
Hi and welcome to the Forum.
There are a number of cemeteries and church graveyards, we have tried to give information here https://www.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/ ... =14&t=5739 about them.
The likelihood is that you might look at Anfield or West Derby first for Liverpool North, possibly even Kirkdale or Everton and for Crosby we would suggest Sefton Cemetery/Crematorium at Thornton, but could also be a church graveyard.
Please post whatever details you have especially names, dates and religion, as if they were RC that might narrow down the search a bit more as Ford would be a likely place.
There is a centralized list held at Allerton Cemetery Lodge, however their charge is £10 per cemetery per year, so it mounts up and we try to do our own searching if we can.

Re: Records office
Thanks Mary, I did see the topic you gave a link to and have been on most of those sites to get info but as they are not comprehensive then I need to check furtheras I still have about 50 names to research. I have a database file but it wont display the columns correctly on here but I took a screen shot of it here

So having more info will help i.e. the last know address to narrow it down slightly.
I am actually going to Allerton Cemetery on Tuesday so will go into the Lodge to see what the score is.

Re: Records office
Something I do to narrow down a search for a burial is to consult the probate indexes first. https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills
If they are listed, a date of death is given. From this, it is worth looking for a death announcement in the newspaper as date and place of burial is often given.

Re: Records office
Karen I do pick up the Probate records whist researching on Ancestry, they are a good source of info and in confirming family members when they show who the estate was passed onto.
Ref the newspapers. I have had a look at some of these website that you can search but had mixed results and they are expensive, Could you recommend what direction I should persue this, thanks

Re: Records office
First of all apply for a Lancashire Library Card as you can access the Old Newspapers on their site with it. These only go up to 1900. For later newspapers, if you are going to the Record Office (Liverpool LIbrary) the newspapers are held there on microfilm for quite a late date, and the most recent in originals.

Re: Records office
I went to Allerton Cemetery to the Lodge but a sign outside says there is no longer a reception there so will have to go to the main records office.
On another note I have a plot number to check out of 9524 at Kirkdale Cemetery but how does this relate to the areas shown on cemetery maps of Kirkdale?

Re: Records office
I think the plot number should be Section 9 Grave number 524iaegmooh wrote:I went to Allerton Cemetery to the Lodge but a sign outside says there is no longer a reception there so will have to go to the main records office.
