Garston/Aigburth area before incorporation into the city

Post by daggers »

Any suggestions as to sources for property ownership &/or occupation of premises in that area from about 1820 to say 1900?
Are there any polling lists in Liverpool RO or would they be at Lancs RO if surviving?
Any clues welcome. I have access to censuses and know that there are Gore's Directories to be read.
Thanks

Gores for 1853 is actually on the Historical Directories site, however a search for Garston or Aigburth doesn't find any entries.

The Mannex Director seems to mention Garston, this is at the Liverpool Record Office and also a possible source could be Toxteth Park - Out Township Records, 354 TOX
The collection contains minute books of the highway board; minute books of the commissioners of paving and sewerage; minute books of the local board and its committees; account etc. books of the local board; minute books and other records of the urban district council; minute books and other records of the burial board; minute books of the school board.
Date 1836-1904

Less mentioned in the catalogue for Aigburth, just some Church records.

An email to both Liverpool and Preston might produce some suggestions.

Sorry for delay in responding, Mary, (minor hiccup with computer)and thank you for the suggestions. Emailing the ROs is a good wheeze, and might save wasted visits or hours on the phone.
As Tox Park records are at Lpool RO, then Garston's should be, I think.
