Tracing Information on a Norwegian Sailorand his ship

Looking for help/advice on how to get information on a Norwegian sailor and his ship who is the father of my nephew.

I have his name and the name of the ship he was on when it visited Liverpool circa 1964,

This is not a request to make any contact with him but just to get some background info on his ship and any other non intrusive information that is available for his family tree.

I hope some of the crew can give a more informed answer, all I can suggest is to search the National Archives for the ship and his name.

Was he a seaman on a British Registered ship. At the National Archives they have the records of the Board of Trade
