Marriages St Anthony's RC Church Scotland Road
Marriages St Anthony's RC Church Scotland Road
Hi there again
Is it possible to obtain an entry of marriage or more likely a church blessing from St Anthony's RC Church Scotland Road?
Elizabeth Ferns married a Charles Evans 4 November 1924 and then again in church on 14 April 1925.
Would you have any idea where I could get this church record from please?
Thank you very much for your help. It is always appreciated.
Kind regards.
Kathy

I am not sure how far St. Ants marriages go up to. If the registers are not at the Archives they will be at St. Anthony's, so you may have to contact the Church.
Did they have a Civil Marriages then a church blessing?

Civil Marriages Dec 1924: Evans, Charles and Ferns, Elizabeth A - W.Derby 8b 907
There is no civil marriage for this couple in 1925 so the St Anthony's event must have been a blessing.

Re: Marriages St Anthony's RC Church Scotland Road
It's possible if one or both were baptised Catholics that a record of the church marriage blessing exists either as a note or formal entry in the baptism register. There should certainly be an entry in the marriage register as the church would not have recognised the earlier marriage. The church marriage would be seen by them as the proper marriage record.

If you can post your reply on here before the end of today it may save duplication of me checking at the Record Office tomorrow.

Marriages for St Anthony's are held at the Record Office only up to 1906. The later ones must still be at the church.

Hi there again
I Now have a copy of the marriage blessing conducted on St Anthony's. As Elizabeth Ferns was a Catholic and Charles Evans wasn't, would Charles have had to change his religion in order for this ceremony to take place please? Does anyone know about this type of thing please?
Many thanks for your help.

Yes he should have changed his religion but then he may just have lied.
I can only give an example of mine in that grandmother's first husband was presumably Church of Ireland and before they married - here in Liverpool - I did find an adult baptism for him, so presumably he did change for her.

Re: Marriages St Anthony's RC Church Scotland Road
Thanks for the info Mary. I suspect he didn't lie as I presume he would have been terrified of the mother in law. Also he was buried in Ford cemetery which I am told is for Catholics only. I will look to see if I can find a baptism for him in the Catholic records. He was baptised in St Mary's Walton when he was born, but I think it was a C of E church.
Thanks for your help again.
Best wishes.
