Hi
I have just found a Marriage Bond dated 1804 between Ann Christmas and Jacob Moore. It is hard to read the written writing but the typed writing has me puzzled. It says are holden and firmly bound to the Right Reverend Father in God Brownlow (written Brownlow) by Divine Permission, Bishop of Winton in the sum of Two Hundred Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain, to be paid to the said Right Reverend Father, or his certain Attorney, Executors, Administrators, or Assigns: To which payment, well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, and each of us by himself for the whole, our heirs, excutors and Adminstrators, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our Seals, Dated the ? Day of February in the Year of our Lord 1804.
Ann Christmas was a minor and it seems to be between Jacob Moore (spouse) and Ann's father John Christmas. Sorry they are not from Liverpool but Surrey, although future generations did move to Liverpool. Just really wanted to know did he have to pay £200 huge amount in 1804.
Thanks
Lin

Hi Bert
Thanks for that info. I understand it better now. I was shocked at the £200 as it would of been a lot of money then.
Thanks again
