Seaman

Post by tsumi »

Hello All,
I have just found on A......., A relative one Paul Lawson born 1847,Liverpool,who was a seaman ,in his 1873 record of, Canada ,Seafarers of the Atlantic Provinces,it lists payment type,"on the run" anyone know what this means,it say,s he was discharged at the end of the trip,so I assume he didn,t jump ship.
Thanks for your time .

Sorry I don't know, but I came across a Death at Sea on the Roraima on 27 July 1886 age 41, page 117. He appears to have fallen overboard in the North Sea on a voyage between Riga and London.

Could this be your man?

Its payment 'By the run'

I think, paid for the voyage only, not employed and paid once voyage is over.
