Hi
Not sure if this is the Bernard Leary you are looking for.
Bernardus Leary - parents Joanis and Maria Anna Leary.
Liverpool, Catholic Baptism's
Bernard born 06 August 1888 baptised 18 August 1901.
The record shows St Georges S V or S T. There are no god parents stated.
Just for your information all of the records on this page are the same, so it looks as though each child must all have been baptised same time, as all mention St Georges, and baptised same date
Not yet found him on 1901 census, however in 1911, there is a Bernard Leary , born Liverpool, on board ship "Flora" and occupation a Stoker and this also has a date of birth 1889
I have checked the st Georges S V or S T, and it appears to have been a boys home, situated at 137a West derby Road, Liverpool and Everton Terrace. I believe the address of 137a West Derby Road, is in the Parish of St Michael, the Everton Terrace address is just down the road.
See Below
ST GEORGE’S INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL, WEST DERBY ROAD, LIVERPOOL.
The school was founded 1854 or 1858 by Belgian nuns at Everton Flags, Everton Terrace, Liverpool, at first it was mixed school.
In 1863 removed to West Derby Road, the former West Derby Fever Hospital that had been modified internally to accommodate the children, 1867 for boys only. The girls were sent to ST GEORGE’S INDUSTRIAL SCHOOLS FOR ROMAN CATHOLIC GIRLS, FAIRFIELD, LONDON ROAD, FRESHFIELD, FORMBY.
Hope this is of help to you.

Thank you for your reply I do not think the baptism records at St. Georges School relate to my Leary Family as I do have all the baptismal records.
It is not John Bernard in the 1901 census as he was married by then. It was just the youngest children.
I know it is certainly Mary Ann on the 1901 as it ties in to a family letter we have where she mentions her life, marriage and child and the address is Bristol. It was wrote in 1922 she also mentions about Barney hoping to get leave to visit her. He was the youngest child. Bernard was born 1888. Below is where I got the information I have for Mary Ann Leary.
I have no RG no. on that information only the webe page.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jeffery.knaggs/12386ahtml
The 1891 Census for the family before the death is RG12/2899
I was not familiar with St. Georges School, and I was not familiar with Census page references I am still learning.
Thank you
Sophia

Hi Michelle
I have just digested your information and I have to say I am really confused as Bernard was born on the 10th August, 1888 and baptised on the 18th August, 1888 not 1901. All the children were baptised in Catholic Church's.
You would think it would be easy to find children this young.
Mary Elizabeth was 14 when her father died
Mary Jane was 13
Mary Ann was 11
Catherine was 8
Bernard was 5

Hi Sophia
Nice to speak with you.
Can you let me know the details of where you got the baptism records from?
Your information may be correct, I am just going on the fact you could not find any further information on the children and mum was in service and father had passed away previously.
Certainly do not mind looking for the other children for you, if you know any minor snippets of information they may match up with something.
I am struggling for more than 2 years with my great grandmother and all I have is a first name, the address and age she stated in 1911, where she was born, so it can be highly frustrating, when you cannot find anything else, however another pair of eyes may help.

Hi Michelle
Bernard was bapised at St. Anthony's R.C. Scotland Rd, iverpool, 5.
The others were baptised at various church's St. Bridgets, St. Joseph's ect. I know Bernard went away to sea and Mary Ann was in a covent, that is certain, and I know the history of marriages, but I am trying to find out where the children were after the 1891 census.
They must have been in homes.
Regards
Sophia

This is my husbands Great Grandfather Edward Grocott. His wife Ellenor Trainor (spelling taken from Marriage Certificate) was from Clonmel Tipperary. They married in Clonmel in 1846. On the 1861 census they have a Samuel Halland living with them aged 23 and states lodger. This could be Holland. Don't know if this helps. I haven't got much on Ellen as it's hard searching Ireland.MaryA wrote:Have you done any investigation into the "Growcotts" who are godparents to Elizabeth? In 1881 they appear to be living in 3 Currie Street, St Martin, Liverpool.

Re: john leary
Thanks dickiesam,
Regarding Edward Grocott he has proved a bit of a lad, at least he kept it in his family. Assault on & breaking the goods of A Grocott. Add that to my rogues gallery. Only problem it keeps growing,
