Meant to mention...
The number alongside the photograph is the unique ID of a vessel Dominic signed onto as 3rd mate. This site http://www.crewlist.org.uk/data/vesselsnum.php has an index of ID numbers and gave the vessel ID of 140557 to be the SS ANDALUSIAN out of Liverpool, a steam ship built in 1918. Dominic signed on her in Jan 1919 and again in August 1921.
The Andalusian was torpedoed and sunk in March 1941. http://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?31201
