Do any of you kind folk know if there is an address for Ford Cemetery and would they be prepared to do a check on how many internments there are in one grave. I believe it would be a private family grave.

So long as you have the exact date of one interment and grave reference Allerton Cemetery Lodge will do the cross referencing for you and give a list of whoever is in the grave, I believe without charge.

Thank you MaryA. I phoned this morning and found there were 5 internments. Four I have been able to lay to rest as family members but have one anomaly. Mary Washington 107 Rice Lane age 26 buried 16/09/1948. I am assuming this could be Mary Welsh/Walsh born 1922 but cannot find a marriage.
Thank you Blue70 for your help.

MaryA you are a star. Thank you so much. This side of the family has been a nightmare to research because they switch between Walsh and Welsh (that's without the transcription errors ) It also seems each generation uses the same Christian names. Thank you once again.

Another burial for you brilliant folks. I have found a 1976 burial - place of death looks like "Newshan Aewe?l Hosp. Anotation in the left hand column is COCLSED - I wonder if this is meant to be closed? I haven't given the persons details as it is in the 70's.

Newsham Hospital by that time was a geriatric hospital, but it did close quite soon afterwards, don't know if that helps. As the person is deceased you are allowed to give the details and perhaps we can take a look.

To show the example of the handwriting, note that the spelling by whoever wrote this register is terrible.
I am wondering if the "closed" which appears on a number of other entries, means that now the grave is full and will be closed finally after this burial, no more to go in it?

Hi MaryA Thank you for highlighting the burial record. Whilst updating my Catholic Ancestors I came across 4 males whose address on the burial record was 42 Belmont Road. Having Googled the address I found that it was West Derby Workhouse which later became Newsham General Hospital. A bit of trivia which you probably already knew

Grandmother spent a while in there after taking a short cut through a building site and falling in a hole and breaking her foot - she was in her 80's then but still lived to 94, returned to Newsham in 1971 where she was looked after until she passed, it mainly looked after geriatrics.

What a fantastic lady your Grandmother was = at her age most would have died from the shock of the fall. I assumed it was a geriatric hospital but it is so good to have confirmation.
May I take the liberty of one more question Where would a person who died in Effingham Street be buried in the early 1890s? Would it have been Ford or a closer cemetery. I have found all the burials for my Great Grandmother's children in Ford except this one little angel who died when she was 12 months old. I have her birth and death certificate but no sign of a burial.

Ford is only an RC cemetery, so it would depend on the religion, however there was also an RC section at Anfield, I don't believe you will find an entry online but might be worth checking the Burial Register at the Library. Alternatively because of the area, I would suggest checking Bootle.
