Trade directory 1911 and later

Post by Matty50 »

Does anyone have access to trade directory 1911 and later ?
I'm looking for a John Evan Edwards, 61 Landseer Road, who was a grocer. Could this property have been a shop?

Hi Matty

The Landseer Road address is John's residence.
His shop address in 1911 is 37a Lower Breck Road, Anfield E

Hi Matty

Yes Gore's 1911 directory.

I've just checked 1914, but he's not listed at all and different names at both addresses.

Must have left Liverpool between those dates

He died in 1933 in Bromley Pensnett Stafford, so maybe he moved there?
Does it say what sort of a shop it was?

I presume it was a grocer's shop as it just says Edwards John E grocer

Electoral rolls could be your next route for finding where the family went next, but I can't help you with that, LRO may have them near those dates.

John Evan Edwards' death was registered in Stourbridge...
Deaths Sep 1933: Edwards, John E [62] - Stourbridge 6c 45
[Stourbridge spans the boundaries of the counties of Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire]

Information about the area covered by this District Registration Office is here:
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/dist ... ridge.html

Since John seems to have moved soon after 1911 and died in Bromley Pensnett, Staffs, it might be worthwhile trying to access the electoral rolls for that area, starting with the nearest available to his death date. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pensnett

I suggest contacting for advice.....

Problem with Electoral Registers is that you need an address to search, not a name. If you are able to I would check the Landseer Road address in Liverpool for the next few years - yes DS is correct these are held at William Brown Street.

Following that I wonder if you have thought of posting on a specific board for Staffordshire as there may be people who hold similar directories for that area. Rootschat.com has a board for each county.

1932, Staffordshire Directory.

Was Bromley so small there was no requirement for a road/street address?

Hi Bert,
Bromley was, and still is, a road in Pensnett. Just called Bromley, it is a continuation of Bromley Lane.

Cheers DS,

May make it easier to track his burial for instance and his life while there.
