can anyone assist....I am struggling a bit with this one!
My great grandparents were JAMES & MARGARET ROBINSON (Margaret's maiden name is Johnson)
I know that they had 8 children ( 1911 census confirms this, but it also tells me that 1 child died) This is where I am struggling! I can account for 6 of the children but two of them, SARAH ELLEN (b.1880) & JAMES ROBINSON (b.1885) are both on the 1891 family census, but both are not on the 1901 family census. I know its a possibility that both were not home, but as I can account for the other 6 children in later life...I can only assume that one of these two died!
I am also trying to trace a marriage of my dads uncle, WILLIAM ROBINSON (b.1890). I know his wife was Maggie and I know he was married before he was in WW1 (joined up in 1915). The only possibility I keep finding is in 1908.....but I can't seem to confirm. There is a possibility that he married MARGARET MASON. Williams parents are the same as above (james & Margaret).
Can anyone assist? William & Maggie also had a daughter called Eileen (my dads cousin).
Help with a death & marriage please?
Re: Help with a death & marriage please?
Would have preferred two enquiries in different posts but never mind. To deal with the second first of all -
Can you tell us where you have found the details for William Robinson and Margaret Mason? I have found a couple of William Robinson's married to Margaret between the years 1906 (possibly too early but I always do a wide search) and 1915 - check http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/ There is a 1907 at Edge Hill, St Dunstan to a Maria Margaret Bell, and also a 1911 at Kirkdale, St Paul to a Margaret Ann Garlick - only the Banns appear to be online, not the actual marriage entry. There is also a William H to a Margaret G Young in 1912 - West Derby, Register Office or Registrar Attended - which means that it may have been a marriage in a Register Office or it may have been in an RC or non conformist church.
The daughter called Eileen - need a year for her birth - in fact her birth certificate would give her mother's maiden name which is the definitive means of confirming that you have the correct parents.
Have you checked for Service Records for William? many of them give details of the marriage and dates of birth of the children.
As for your first query I think you need to discount any marriage of Sarah Ellen - there are quite a number of marriages after 1891, many not online to be able to check the details.
You haven't given details of where they were living so I'm a little unsure about checking death entries, but if there was the chance that they were in the north part of Liverpool rather than in the Toxteth Park registration district it would seem that a likely entry might be for a James Robinson in Q4 1891 W. Derby 8b 260 age 6. Between 1891 and 1901 I don't see an appropriate entry for Sarah E(llen).

Re: Help with a death & marriage please?
Just did a check of FreeBMD for the marriage you seem to be finding - with Margaret Mason, I am assuming this is the one in Q2 1908 Liverpool 8b 118. This William married Mary Ellen Gordon in St Nicholas, always do a cross reference with http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/ which will often give you the spouse and often the church.

Re: Help with a death & marriage please?
Hi Mary...
Possible marriage of William Robinson in 1908 found on Findmypast. It just says "potential spouse names: Mary Ellen Gordon & Margaret Mason". Liverpool 8B 118/202. As said this is a possible. He would have been 18 at the time.
Margaret could have been a middle name of his wife, and everyone knew her by that (like my mother!).
Found a service record for William Robinson which my brother is confirming for me (as he works for British Legion and can find out loads!). The address on there is 86 Brisbane Street, Kirkdale (which ties in nicely as they all seem to live in the same street/area). My great grandad/nans address was 79 Brisbane Street. It also says that he was married when he enlisted in 1915...but no wife name.
William & Maggie had a daughter Eileen who married Frank Kennedy
Sarah Ellen Robinson (B.1880)....I did find a possible on 1911 census, as a servant in another household......but this is a possible....but can't find any marriage for her though.
So a bit stuck at the moment.
