Samuel Landsborough - can't find his death anywhere.

Post by pat »

Samuel (Mc)Landsborough/(Mc)Landsburgh (and variants), Joiner.
m1 Mary Gledrie/Gladry b abt 1771 KKD SCT (dau of Wm) - no marriage found yet.
all births registered on same day at Dalbeattie, Urr, KKD, SCT
- William 1795
- Andrew 1797
- John 1798
- Janet 1800
- Mary 1803
- Euphemia Fanny 1805, m J Lowrie/Laurie
- Hannah 1806, m John S Fraser
- Agnes Kissock 1810

It is presumed Mary Gledrie died before 1815

Samuel m2, 17 Apr 1815 Dalbeattie, Urr, KKD, SCT, Agnes Garmory/Montgomery (and variants)

- Samuel 1816 Dalbeattie, no further info
- Isabella 1819 Liverpool ENG, m Wm Dunn
- Marion 1819 Liverpool ENG, m James Gledrie, Mariner

Clearly, Samuel, Agnes, and some of his children moved from Urr to Liverpool between 1816 and 1819.

Agnes Garmory Landsborough died 26 Apr 1848, West Derby LAN, and is listed by her daughter, Isabella Dunn, as “Widow” of Samuel Landsborough.

Samuel died between 1819 - 1848, probably Liverpool, although I suspect he died before the 1841 census. No record of his death or burial has been located in either ENG or SCT. I assume he was born between 1765-1775.
So far I have searched FreeBMD and Scotlandspeople, as well as any online cemetery data for Liverpool and am completely at a loss as to where to look next.

The McClamroch name morphed through dozens of variants over time to what is generally “Landsborough” now. There are still lines today using McClamrock, McClamrock, and McLandsborough. It has made researching this family an absolute nightmare.

Any ideas appreciated...I'm about ready to pay someone LOL.

Hi and welcome to the forum. At this point just wanted to mention that Civil Registration didn't begin in England and Wales until 1837. There would appear to be a chance that Samuel died before that date and so it would be a burial not a "death" that you would be looking for.

Have you checked anywhere for Wills?

Hi, and thanks!

It had occurred to me that he may have died too early for the civil registers.

Alison, that must be him. Yay! Is that a full transcription, or do I need to order something to see if there is more information?

Yay! Now I know when he died, and how old he was. Hopefully I can find his parents with that.

There isn't anything else to order, that will be the lot. The only possible other item would have been a headstone inscription but I have checked Gibsons, which includes the Necropolis Cemetery, and there is no entry for any Landsboroughs, sorry.

It's not a common name, given the clue of Lancs OPC site, it might be worth also taking note of another similar entries.

Burial: 11 Mar 1830 Low Hill Cemetery, Everton, Lancashire, England
Sarah Lownsbrough -
Age: 77
Abode: London Rd
Register: Burials 1825 - 1830, Page 41, Entry 2951

http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/ worth seeing if any of the marriages or baptisms might be relevant. Just put the surname in without anything else.

Funny, I recall searching Lancashire OPC before. I found (marriage) info for someone in the same family, but never Samuel. I can't thank you enough.
Still, I can't find his birth in SCT - but I have McClamroh, McClamroch, McGlamroch, Landsborough, Lansburgh, and all sorts of other variants to wade through.
I did find a Samuel McClellan b 1772 KKD; it wasn't a typo, but as a last resort I do have to be aware that the entire last name may have gotten buggered up. I have another, McCuffy which so far has been recorded as McIvy, McGuffy, McCoughtrie - fun fun fun!

Always worth revisiting sites on a regular basis as they are updated as more data becomes available.
