Hope this is the right place for this post!!
Peter Garner (36) is recorded as being in Hereford Gaol in the 1911 census.
Can anyone guide me as to the best route to find out his crime / trial / sentence??
He is one of my great uncles and I'm curious!!

Was he born in Liverpool? if not maybe Katie will move the post over to another board anyway.
The difficulty with searching newspapers etc. for any details like this is that the online availability only goes up to 1900.
As this is out of our area, and my sphere of geographical knowledge, I would suggest that you contact Hereford Archives or Record Office,
http://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/leisure ... s/3584.asp and ask what help they could give you.

Hi Mary,
Thanks for your thoughts.
PG was born "over the water" in Runcorn.
My thoughts are :
Could he have been tried in this area and then gaoled in Hereford
(so look at local papers)
OR
As he was a bricklayer by trade, had he moved to Hereford and committed the crime there (look in Hereford papers)
I have already "googled" Hereford Gaol and it wasn't being built and unlikely being extended, as it was closed in 1915, with prisoners moved to Gloucester. So he wasn't working there!!
Hoped someone might know how the judiciary worked in the early 1900's, to save some dead ends!!
