I couldn't find him on CWGC for Anfield Burial Records, however he is Commemorated on Hollybrook Memorial, Southampton

I have sent a email to IFTC to see if I can get his correct Burial Details inserted on his entry.

I have had a reply from Chris Harley regarding this Soldier.

Private Frederick Joseph Circuit died of wounds while being transported from France to England. I provide the proof that Anfield Cemetery is his final resting place, which I can! he gets a CWGC headstone and his final resting place is recorded. All weepy. I must be doing something right with all my indexing and transcribing.

As this Soldier, I suspect will be buried with members of Joe Public, and not in a Special Military Grave he may not get a CWGC headstone, but he will go on the Memorial Screen. That will do me fine. I will need to ring up the Cemeteries Office and find out the order numbers of all in that Grave.

What a great result, Katie. I have passed the information to Tony W of the Pals Memorial Fund, who is building a database on all who served in those 4 battalions. Can you let us know if you hear about a date for the headstone?

You can but ask, but it may be months before they produce the stone. If you tell them that some regimental interest is likely, it may persuade them!

Regarding when you might get to see the CWGC headstone, be prepared for a long wait!

Earlier this year I was in discussion with the CWGC about a headstone for a relative who is buried in this country, and they agreed that one would be erected. When I contacted them again recently to enquire when this might happen, I was told by the Regional Supervisor, and I quote, "I have enquired with the production centre regarding a delivery date, they inform me that this is a high priority order, so should be with us in about 14 months."

(I don't want to mention here who the headstone is for as I plan to write an article for the quarterly journal about how I came to discover this relative and what I have been able to discover about him. In my innocent, before I found out about the time scale mentioned above, I intended to write the article this year, with the expectation that I could include a photograph of the headstone. Maybe this will have to go ahead without the photograph.)

A person after my own heart. I never intended to go ploughing through the Cemetery registers. I have always been interested in the American Service men who died here in Liverpool during WW1 and were all repatriated either back to their homeland or to the American Cemetery here in England. Needless to say I was looking for a burial in Kirkdale not connected with soldiers and I kept on coming across soldier, soldier and Canadian Soldier, USA Soldier and needless to say I went and bought a file and started ploughing through the Registers and extracting all those buried who had soldier recorded against their entry. That is how I located Frederick from cross referencing those in my index with their record on CWGC. Very worthwhile project. I have Amanda working on Toxteth Cemetery as we speak.

As a footnote in our City during WW1 we had German POW's buried in Kirkdale Cemetery in 1916 from the Battle of the Somme. As far as I am aware they are still there. I have found no evidence of them being repatriated. We have a Jewish German POW who died in Highfield Infirmary buried in the Jewish Cemetery on Queen's Drive (I think) We have Belgium Refugees, a seaman of the French Navy (repatriated) I could go on. A World in one City.

I discovered a few days ago that the CWGC headstone I mentioned in my post of last year (see above) was erected last month. I only found out because I contacted the CWGC area supervisor again after 12 months for a provisional date, as last year I had been told it would be 14 months before it would be ready (which would have made it November this year).

So Katie, if you have not already done so, it might be worth contacting the CWGC for an update on the one you have an interest in.

I went to visit the grave today and to take a photograph. I will now have to get on with writing the story for the journal I was proposing to do!

Yesterday while at an event of re dedication of Indonesian Seamen I show a picture to the area Representative from CWGC of a stone that appeared on Joseph Circuit grave. He confirmed that the marker is his CWGC stone. As Joseph is buried in a public grave they could not put the usual CWGC headstone. The stone reads.
