Remarkable Seacombe Case-Liverpool Courier 31st-May-1915

The identity of the body of the man recovered from the Mersey at Egremont on Wendesday was established at the resumed inquest on Saturday.

At the opening of the inquiry at Seacombe by the West Cheshire coroner, Mr. J.C. Bate, on Friday, the body was identified bu Mrs. C. Rogers, Trevelyan Street, Breeze Hill as her husband, who left her sixteen months ago, and it was also identified by Mrs. E. Mullin, Lily Grove, Cherry Lane as her husband whom she left two years last October.

The third identification was made by two men living in a lodging house in Springfield Street. who was declared that the body was that of Edward Oliver, commission agent who had lived at the lodging house for sixteen years.

On Saturday Detective Short, the coroner's officer, said he had visited the lodging house and found that a key in the possession of the deceased fitted his locker. In the locker was his photograph.

The two men were recalled and said they had again seen the body and were positive they were not mistaken.

The Coroner in summing up, said that it was not often they had so much and such conflicting evidence as to the identity of a man.

The jury unhesitatingly decided that the body was that of Edward Oliver, and returned a verdict of "Found drowned"

I wonder what the 2 alleged wives were up to???

Although I have nothing to add to this story (and it's quite a story) I found this really interesting. I am new to the board and I have to admit I am quite addicted! Everyone has been so kind. Thanks, Ken
